Hi all, so here's the thing, Salt World was down for some time because it was under DDoS attack by a gigantic army of compromised IoT devices. We were literally being attacked by random internet connected gadgets, including one security camera from an Italian pizza parlor.

I've installed Cloudflare to help deal with the problem, so you might see a 5 second intermediary message before you get any content. I'm not sure whether it will solve the problem yet but it's something...

hi all we might still be under DDoS attack but for now we're back up????????? hopefully for good???????

you might still see the Cloudflare thingy before it will let you in, I intend to keep it on a safe mode for a while.

i don't mind the cloudfare thing, as long as posting works. this isn't a place for breakneck-speed - posting anyways.

any idea or indications where it's coming from?

btw thanks for all the hard work dada. not enough said about dis... thanks for saving my childhood memories. this is literally the ONLY PLACE i check and say anything at all at regular basis lol.

there's no way to really tell where it's coming from unfortunately, we were just being hit by thousands of random IPs from all over the world. at the moment everything seems ok.

I actually moved SW to a whole new server and protected it so that the IP is impossible to determine, that's the 5 second "checking browser" page you see before you're allowed into Salt World. For a while I'm gonna keep that, after that I will scale it down to lower security.

Yeah thank you so much!!! Can't talk about saltiness anywhere/with anyone else (besides Neuropath who is currently very busy), so the lengthening disabling scary days than I thought it would be. You know what I mean?

I like the Cloudflare. It's the same thing you see at the forefront of shady free tv-watching sites. And if this surveillant crest means increased security for us in-crowd types, so be it, I don't want riff-raff in my garden. "Elephant guns..." Beautiful mouse gets stomped on by some jealous dick. Is it really still just that Xfzgggl thug roughing us up because we didn't pay his protection money?

By the way I'm only gods17/cicada/Ice Baby but I can no longer recall the credentials necessary to reclaim entry. The new captcha where it has you piece together a photo is really unpleasant. Captchas always make me feel like I'm somehow getting roped into teaching computers how to mimic humans and in ten years I'll be faced down by a robot whose understanding of the world I directly contributed to, although of course captchas wouldn't be the route for that since they need to know in advance the accuracy of the answer.
