Man I quite liked the Shippuuden movie. It was decent enough to watch. Certainly better than number 3 (which I had to watch in two separate viewings; I fell asleep in the first half, and I wasn't even particularly tired beforehand. What a fucking waste of 700MB), and just a cut above number 2.

Roughly chapter 316.

I just skimmed through onemanga and had a look for something that looked close. That's about last episode's place.

Also I only just saw the episode from 2 weeks ago (was it 56?), and damn, Naruto was a fatty! Did anyone else think in that episode that he looked considerably overweight?

I'm liking how the anime is handling these new fillers. They actually expand canon material. I enjoyed watching the special not just for that reason, but also because the Naruto and Sora fight was pretty well done. I was also actually surprised to see Chiriku and the fire temple in this special.

It's chapter 312 since the anime is doing things a bit differently.

And yeah, I was pretty much sure they'd expand canon with the filler arc. The fillers weren't great but they weren't bad either, though the animation in the second episode was really, really bad at some points. Like, when Naruto is doing the cartwheel or whatever when sparring with Sora... Jesus.

But other than that, cool stuff. Next week's episode looks pretty decent too.

I like these fillers... hate the Bleach ones though, I'll skip them just like I skipped the Boutou (sp?) arc.

What is it with animation studios and the need to suddanly go from good animation to craptacular animation simply becuase its fillers? Is it becuase a differant animation studio does it or somthing?

The worst thing about a long series of fillers is that it messes up the consistency of the series. Both Naruto and Bleach's animation consistency got messed up during and after the fillers. Bleach does look a lot more consistent than Naruto though. Shippuden has some great looking episodes, even non-fight ones like ep 35, but at the same time pretty bad ones. I just wish it were as consistent as the previous series, before the filler saga of course.

Seeing as the manga has just recently reached chapter 400, how about some discussion? I'm really liking how the plot is turning out. I was scared Itachi would be revealed as some "goody-two-shoes" (couldn't think of a better expression) after Madara said that all he was doing was protecting his younger brother. He turns out to be a good person, though someone capable of killing off his whole clan to ensure peace. I wonder what Sasuke's going to do now? Also, I'm hoping the focus returns to Naruto soon and that something will happen in the plot that gives Naruto's friends a chance to shine.

By the way, here's what I consider the best fighting track in Shipuuden. It's from the movie's soundtrack and I really hope it'll be used in the series:

The filler animation isn't any more inconsistent than Shippuuden animation has been so far. Some episodes look really great while others are pretty horrible. I also disagree with what Ohlichris said, I think the original Naruto was nearly as inconsistent, it's just that the art styles were probably a bit closer to each other than they are now so it wasn't as noticeable if you were watching it in one go. But there are a lot of animations with really bad animation and art in both series. Naruto was really consistent during the whole rescue Sasuke arc though.

As for manga, the story is getting really interesting.

I doubt that manga is going back to Naruto anytime soon though. We'll probably get bits of Naruto soon and he'll learn about Jiraya's death and train some more (my bet is that we won't see this training and focus will be on other characters). I also think that Sasuke is going to join forces with Madara or at the very least he's going to be fighting Konoha, probably wants to kills the elders and Danzou.

Second, while Madara has been portrayed as a powerful character, he lost against First Hokage and I can't really buy that the strongest villain in the series would have already lost against a character who hasn't even been hyped that much. If he turns out to be Obito, it'll be pretty hilarious because so many have said that's simply impossible and while it's the most obvious twist there is, it's also more than that and overall pretty well thought out all things considered.

And yeah, Kishimoto said that this year manga is going to focus on Sasuke and after that Kakashi. That's another reason to believe he is Obito. I believe he claims to be Madara so that he could gather people and use them in order to reach his goal, and to conceal his true identity, of course.
