From playing fighting games obsessively, I can tell you right now that you are dead fucking wrong. AFAIK there's only one computer game were skill matters more and that's Q3.

vf4 is pretty skill oriented i've thought. you can counter counters and shit if you are really fast and know the whole roster's moves.

yeah in addition to this: luck and probability were clearly factors the developers placed in the game to balance it. I don't see why you'd remove it just so you can demonstrate who can hit a sequence of buttons faster.
Because you're trying to find out who's the better player, and random items is essentially a very complicated way of picking a random player to give a stat boost. Also, they're not added in to balance the game, because they don't, they unbalance it - they're added in for bloody fun! Nowhere near balanced when a newbie can pick up the hammer and stack up 5 kills in 5 seconds, but hey I don't give a damn it's fun as hell.

Never played VF4 but heard about it. Fighters with too good counters tend to become all about twitch reflexes rather than tactics, and from what I hear VF4 is one of those. Not really my kinda thing. (Also in case anyone misunderstood me I was talking fighters in general, not SSB in particular)

yeah maybe pikachu sucks without items, but so does every character compared to their w/ item counterparts.

Yeah pikachu isn't top tier...you have to work harder to win compared to those who are top tier. Thats part of the game. He can still win though without items, just like everyone else (yeah, probably even pichu) in the game can.

edit: oh yeah and tournament players HAVE FUN too its not like they JUST play for the money. if they didnt have fun they wouldnt play the game in the first place.

yeah anyone who does something for money is really retarded, who works anyways?

you dont realize that tournament players get sponsored and make money for winning and going and stuff too right? if they can consistantly do good they are making more money than most of the people who work normal jobs yearly, and they have more fun at it too.

and no one LETs the box fall on their head, it just kind of randomly appears without notice and kills you.

The point everyone else is trying to make is: boxes falling randomly onto people's heads are part of the game.  The tournaments and money and all that can still exist if they play the whole game, instead of just a stripped out, barebones subpart.

It may be "cheap" and "unfair", but it's cheap and unfair to everyone.  So I am wondering why tournaments don't include the whole game.

It's like, having a Super Mario Bros. 3 tournament, but only ever playing level 2-4, and then winning the tournament and saying, "I'm the best SMB3 player ever!"

I think he meant the whole "depending on it as your sole source of income" is retarded. Which is pretty much a given.

I'm disappionted that classic mode doesn't seem to add anything new to the mix.  Multiple enemies, giant, metal?  We've seen that all before.  What else do you have?

..uh, this update was just to let you know classic mode was back, not to REVEAL EVERY LEVEL IN IT.

So ya, uh, they didn't release ALL OF ADVENTURE MODE at once so they wouldn't do the same with classic..? I'd be kinda miffed if they revealed everything new before it was released tbh.

Revealing that Mario was in the game didn't add anything new to the mix, either.

Yeah, but nothing new was mentioned.  He usually teases us with something new.  Maybe there is something new, but it wasn't mentioned.

ive already said multiple times (and so have other people) there are tournaments with that stuff.

they just arent popular because thats not how people want the game to be played, they want it to be played by skill not luck.

Like I said before. When you take the variables out, most is actually added. more in depth fighting, more intense ledgeguarding, combos, "mindgames", more focus on the fight. And when you think about Smash has such a unique battle system, without the items it is still an interesting and different game than say Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter.

Also, if the game is stripped down because it has no items when the creators put in an option called "Item Switch." Nice  :gwa:

This topic is retarded and so are most of the people discussing it, myself included because I thought that for once, a topic about tournament rules could actually result in progress. Instead it's just "lolz, my way is better, u sux."

And why the fuck can't anyone answer my question? Why the fuck does it bother you what tournament players do and what rules they play by? Jester and Velfarre seem to be okay with it but I can't imagine how they can stand the pain and agony of having someone else play differently from them if the rest of you are whining like little children about something that has no effect on you.

The game was meant to be played different ways.

Anyways, how about that classic mode?

Huh? You’re wondering what the coins on the Stage Clear screen are for? Um, you think they’re there to make it look more lively?

No, no. You earn and save these up little by little as you play. And supposedly you can use them somewhere. But no—you don’t use them to shop.

Yeah.

I like this update, but it was pretty much a given. I guess I like the new system? I'm not sure. Not to offend anyone but imo Ike is enough from Fire Emblem, etc etc. Oh well, can't expect a Stage Builder update every day I suppose.

Hey, coins aren't new.  We got those before too remember? Gambling for trophies?
