Yikes!

I can't think of any better way to start this topic. I'm going to give a brief overview of tonight's episode just so people who are unsure if they want to watch it can get an idea of what's going on.

Spoilers will be included so watch your eyes if you haven't watched previous seasons!

So, at the end of season 2 Michael got thrown into Sona along side Officer Bellick and his nemesis Mahone. Sona is a prison in Panama, based on a real life prison where the prisoners broke out and took over. Guards are now too afraid to go inside, and patrol the outer walls making sure no one escapes. What goes on inside... well, it's not pretty.

Episode 3.01 started off with a fight to the death between two men in the rain. Bellick, Mahone and Michael all watched from the sidelines. It was clear this was going to be a big source of Michaels problems at the prison this season right off the bat.

From there, it continued into re-introducing the characters and showing some clips from last season, and then introducing one of the new characters, whose name I did not catch. This mystery man is running the prison from the inside and seems to consider himself to be the judge/jury/executioner. He's not pleased with Michael's presence, and makes it clear that he is afraid Michael will be put on a pedestal, and possibly over-throwing him.

Lincoln (Michael's brother) is now free and doing whatever he can to save Michael, while attempting to find Sarah (Michael's love from the first and second seasons.) He doesn't have a large part in the episode until the very end, I'll go into that later.

Officer Bellick is having a hard time surviving, having lost all of his clothes and looking pretty beat up... he stumbles around, being picked on by the more fortunate, but still not losing his spirit, in mouthing off to guys who could clearly kill him. He makes a friend who is in the same situation as him... though his friend becomes desperate and tries to escape. He is gunned down, demonstrating exactly how difficult it will be for Michael to get out of this alive.

Mahone approaches Michael in hopes of a truce, keeping each other alive. Michael isn't quite that desperate and tells him he only sees the man that kills his father when he looks at him. Later, though, MYSTERY MAN pins a theft on Michael and puts him into the pit of death with a rather large man. Mahone offers Michael some tips to survive.

Re-enter... T-Bag! The weasley inbred pedophile has been thrown into the Sona, and has plans to stay alive. He begins to suck up to MYSTERY MAN, and seems to become one of his right hand men by the end of the episode.

Michael gets thrown into the pit of death with the rather large man. Only one man comes out, no using weapons. Michael claims he won't fight, but then takes a chance and uses Mahone's tip, knocking the guy out at the legs, he begins to beat on him. He attempts to leave but is pushed back in by the crowd... one man must die. The big guy struggles up and the two begin to fight again. Michael gets him back on the ground, attempting to leave again. Some random from the crowd throws the big guy a knife, and goes for Michael while his back is turned. Mahone steps in and uses some of his SECRET AGENT MOVES to destroy the guy, then shouts the no weapon rule. MYSTERY MAN is dissatisfied and leaves.

Lincoln recieves a call from his son, who is apparently in Panama. He tells him to meet him at a restaurant. Lincoln goes there but only finds a woman. The woman begins small-talk with him, he claims he doesn't have time and begins to walk away, and in the prison break fashion she says something like "I think you do........ LINCOLN" (as if it's a surprise she knew his name, he was only the most wanted man in the world for a while, right??????)

Lincoln returns to the prison and tells Michael that he needs to break some guy out, and then shows him a video of Sarah and his nephew (lincolns son) being held captive.

END SPOILERS

So, what do you guys think is going to happen this season? I thought at first the guy in the basement was sucre, but I guess not. Need more sucre :(

I've been waiting all summer for this (along with a few other shows) and was really stoked to see this.

I at first thought that the guy in the basement was Mahone, (only becaused he "looked like" Mahone, not because of any reason that it would make sense).  Yeah though, I agree; needs more Sucre. (His actor was still credited in the intro though, so that means that this is probably just a one-off incident episode without him.)

The premise for this is pretty crazy, so I'm not sure what to expect yet.  It's a little too early to tell in the season to make any educated predicitions.  However, I must say that the season premiere didn't dissapoint.

I think they are going to break out of prison this season.

EDIT:
It turns out they broke out of prison at the end of the first season, well after I grew bored with the show.

it was alright, but i mean.. not that great.

did the lincoln's son sideplot actually take anybody by surprise? they are just kind of repeating the first season by trying to set up how impossibly difficult it will be to escape (omg if you pretend ur dead they shoot u GFG!), and swapping saving lincoln for saving this other guy.

but anyway, i liked the second season because i had no idea what they were gunna do with it, and i enjoyed how deep mahone became as a character. this season feels like leftovers.

The show was only interesting in the first season. The second season was terribly boring and uninteresting. The third one looks a little better than the previous one but nah... I'm not sure I'll follow this.

I loved the new episode. I like how each season is very different from the last. I know, I know, he's gonna break out of a prison again. That's not the point. The point is that this is like Lord of the Flies... IN PRISON! It's this prison I find interesting, if he breaks out in the next few episodes, I'll be quite upset.

Fuck Sucre, we need more Abruzzi! He could just show up and tell everyone that the other Abruzzi was a clone! No! A cyborg! Aye. That's better.

This show went downhill ever since Peter Stormare's character died. The third season doesn't feel all that exciting to me. I'll probably follow it though since there's really nothing else right now. But if it even takes a small fall over two episodes I'm probably done with it.

I was really surprised to learn that this show went past the first season.  When I first started watching it, I figure that it couldn't last past one season simply because the plot has a definate ending (they break out of prison).  I guessed that for the next "season" they would have a new premise, new actors and a new story.  Instead, they stretched it out to 3 seasons and grew boring to watch.

dont think it works that way. I think the...person in question was dropped entirely for this season.

as was C-Note btw so in case you were wondering about a non-spoiler yeah he's in WITNESS PROTECTION.

well, the ending tonight certainly left lots of possibilities for a certain casting problem resolving... :p

but yeah. im getting annoyed with these episodes not going anywhere, at all. like literally next to no development from the start of the episode. and they already played the entire thing last season. im losing faith :/

Yeah, the last episode was pretty weak. The cell phone thing was pretty boring as you knew that Michael wouldn't get caught. Blah.

What I would like to happen to make things interesting would be for Lincoln to find Sarah's head in the box, but then lie to Michael and not tell him that Sarah's dead. That way Michael would still be getting Whistler out of SONA and freeing LJ in the process. When Michael finds out that Sarah is long dead and Linc never told him... ouch - the sparks will fly.
