A ranbat is a ranking battle which is basically a series of mini-tournaments! It'll be explained further below.

Ok so what?
OK, we will be meeting in #capcom (see this topic for IRC connection info etc: http://www.gamingw.net/forums/index.php?topic=20503.0) every Saturday at 10:00PM central. Then I will use a bracket software to make brackets on the fly at random, and then you will fight your matches. All your matches must be done that day, if you do not show you do not play for that mini-tournament, simple as that.

This ranbat will be single elimination, so if you lose you are done! Feel free to play with the rest of the people who lose though. If you beat a person you score 1 point. If your opponent forfeits, you score 1 point. If you lose, you score 0 points. At the end of each ranbat your points are tallied and compared with other peoples!

There will be a prize to the first place winner of the ranbat, and they will have a wide selection of choices of prizes for them to choose from. Depending on your prize and where you live it can take 2-6 weeks before you'll recieve it, however.

For Melty Blood:
Starting Date + Time: November 4th at 7:00PM Eastern, then meet every Sunday at the same time after.
Ending Date: December 23rd
No prize at this point, just for fun.

I want to do this, but I don't know if I'll necessarily be able to start at 9. I usually work Saturdays and although I make it back home by 8:30 most of the time, they've been keeping me at work later and later the last few Saturdays.

Yeah and being able to turtle for 8 minutes with your top regening you all the time is kind of gay too.

edit: for the record though if you're losing by time out in garou then you probably aren't being very aggressive or rushing down much.

although i too hate losing by time outs, i have to admit it makes sense
it keeps the game action going, and if you lost by time out, its because you had less life, and were less likely to win anyway

also its very exciting when the last few seconds tick down, and both of you have a smidgen of life and two full super bars

I've pulled through with less life than my opponent a few times, and people have managed to beat me with literally 0 health left even more times.  No lie, ask Goat.

Besides, the timer is pretty lame, if someone is winning by a margin of 1hp and the timer is running out, they will fucking run.  I actually remember Corel doing this, he even said that he wanted the timer on 60 seconds so that this option was still available to him.

I haven't played a turtling person just regenerating in TOP mode all day, because they would get punished for turtling all day, not to mention most people have their top set on the beginning of their bar, not at the end.

*its the standard arcade setting (yeah 3 out of 5 rounds technically isn't but you could do that with 2 out of 3 by just playing another set which possibly might only be a half set)
*not having time degenerates gameplay into a turtle fest
*having time gives you an option to run away which the low life person can use it to his advantage by attacking you as you do something stupid (like run in) which gives them a chance too (hey you never know)
*having time gives you an alternate way to lose (it doesn't matter how you win, as long as you win. (and do it legitly))
