How awesome does this look?

Quote from: 'Wikipedia
A man-made virus wipes out the population of New York City' date=' leaving Robert Neville (Will Smith) the last human survivor in the city and possibly the world. Neville lives alone for three years, attempting to contact and find other possible survivors. He is watched by the Infected, mutant victims of the plague. Neville works to find a way to create a cure using his own immune blood, but he finds himself outnumbered by the Infected and running out of time.[/quote']

It's apparently based on an old 1950's book of the same name, and I personally think this film looks pretty fantastic. Something about the apocalypse is always appeals to me.

I am Legend on Wikipedia
I am Legend on IMDB

Indpendance Day meets War of the Worlds meets Twelve Monkeys.

Now I keep meaning to head over to the IMAX Cinema down in London and watch an awesome movie, but I have just been waiting for the perfect movie to come out. Something with explosions and lots of COOL STUFF, and then I forget that I want to go to IMAX and then I remember and then I forget again.

I think this just might be the IMAX movie for me. Imax BTW So I just really hope it plays in the IMAX cinema. They seem pretty selective about what they play.

What do you guys think?

If it wasn't for the book, I'd say this was a complete ripoff of 28 Days Later, especially the deserted city scenes.  I really hate Will Smith, though.  I'm already cringing at the thought of his retarded one-liners and cocky attitude.

I can understand the reasons you think that, (Fresh Prince anyone?) But I really think Will has improved as an actor over the years. I think as an actor he is actually pretty good, Independance Day, The Persuit of Happyness, I Robot. They are all pretty good films where he gives a pretty good performance. I'm not really trying to convince you to like him here but just don't judge the whole film on the basis that you dislike a certain actor.

I never liked Leo DeCaprio after watching Titanic but he blew me away in The Departed and The Beach and I think he is pretty Stellar now.

Will Smith isn't a TERRIBLE actor, he's just slowly coming over his RARGH BIG BUFF ACTION HERO status of being loud and obnoxious.  Out of all the American action stars, I generally like him the most because he has this flamboyent attitude in front of the camera... it's like other action stars try so hard to be so badass but Smith just has this cocky "i don't give a shit" attitude that fits so well.

As far as this goes, I'm probably going to be a bit biased because I read the graphic novel (the movie is based off the comic book version but takes elements from the book as well to create something somewhat original).  The monsters are supposed to be vampires and Neville doesn't even get his dog until halfway through.

Still, I read interviews and such and they seem to be following the style closely.  The story wasn't so much literal as it was atmospheric and Neville has like... 10 lines in the entire thing and Smith himself said "well, I don't even speak for the first hour of the film so the whole thing is about the bond between me and the atmosphere" which kind of put a smile on my face because I know someone somewhere knows what they're doing.

And yeah, 28 days later is 50 years too late :D

Well, the book was totally amazing, so I'm quite hyped for this. Will Smith doesn't really strike me as the guy that would portray Neville well tho, but we'll see!

So why is Neville the only (known) survivor, or is that the kind of the mystery of the whole story?

I'd have found it more interesting if there were no mutant and he was the last man on earth. Might be boring, but I still liked Cast Away, and the idea of being all alone can be pretty terrifying.

man

of all the movies will smith has made which are maybe kind of tolerable, you picked independence day and i, robot as two of them?  those are like... pretty much flawless examples of why someone wouldn't like him, and of how little it seems like he's changed since fresh prince.  both were pretty much filled with stupid one-liners and i'm actually kind of having a hard time differentiating between his character/dialogue in either.  i, robot was just so terrible when i saw it.  i seriously wasn't expecting it to be that bad!  buuuuuut with that said, i kind of liked pursuit of happyness and ali seemed pretty okay from whatever chunk of it i saw playing on hbo or whatever, so maybe this won't be that bad.  i think i'd probably see it, if only because i'm a sucker for shit with subject matter/settings like this, regardless of how bad the actors in them are.

Man I love Will Smith and I LOVE survival movies (these are survival movies, right) Also, while this sounds a lot like 28 Weeks Later, I can't wait to see it.

I actually thought that at first. It sounded a SHITLOT like Lux Aeterna, but most stuff does these days when people want to make EPIC ORCHESTRAL MUSIC. That song blows my mind and I thought that this was kind of a rip off.

Also I liked i-robot :(

It's pretty much a remake of The Omega Man.

I still am interested in seeing it though.

Actually yeah, exactly. The Omega Man was based off of the same book.

This movie looks amazing.  I can't believe how much weight it looks like he lost to play the role.

he's always been a pretty thin guy, man.  he doesn't look, to me at least, to be any thinner than he was in pursuit of happyness or i, robot or whatever movies he's done fairly recently.

This comes out tomorrow, so i'm seeing it then. Honestly I liked the trailer with him being alone better than the one with the vampire-mutant things attacking his car or whatever, so hopefully it doesn't degenerate into some kind of zombie movie thriller thing. I've got good expectations!

Also, as a (GREAT) bonus, an exclusive trailer for The Dark Knight (Batman Begins sequel anyone?) is being shown.

The first time I saw a commercial on this (i.e. yesterday) the second I heard the words 'infected' and 'survivor' in the same sentence my first instinct was to shout 'ZOMBIEPOCALYSPE' at the top of my lungs.
"Field Marshal Haig is about to make yet another gargantuan effort to move his drinks cabinet six inches close to Berlin."

Sam: "What assurance do you give, Taraka, that this bargain will be kept?"
Taraka: "My word? I shall be happy to swear by anything you care to name--"
Sam: "A facility with oaths is not the most reassuring quality in a bargainer..."

Will Smith meets Barkley meets end of the mankind.
