How do I configure a wireless router for internet sharing? How do I set the computers, like, I have a set up screen where you can configure several things and I have no idea what they are except for ad-hoc and "infrastructure" mode, which one must I choose? Plus, can wireless routers be harmful to my health, because aren't they like those huge cellphone antenas?

At the moment I only have the wireless cards, not the router, and does having any wall in the way affect the speed of such cards since I can see that it affects the "signal strength"?

Edit: And what is the difference between those routers that have only one antena and the ones that have several of them, does the antenna count change anything at all?

You want Infrastructure and Channel 6. Not sure about the last three... but a long as you have that, just set up the nics on the other PCs and it should detect your router automatically. From there.. all you'd need to do is use whatever console the nics use to find and connect to "internets" (the name of your router).

network interface card, like a LAN card or a wireless card, or even a device built into your mobo for the same purpose

and no, wireless isnt harmful. if they were we would be screwed because wireless waves are all around us.

If that were true, you'd be a freakin' mutant by now, considering you drive, walk, bike and otherwise travel through many wireless networks and signals in the course of any day.

Wi-fi and cellphone signals are just radio waves. If radio were harmful, not only would you be a mutant, but your parents and your parents' parents would also be mutants.

Please don't post "youd be mutants lol", because it has been scientifically proven that living next to a cellphone antenna (I don't know how its called, it's the antenna that is not on the telephone itself) is bad to the health

And is there something I can do to increase the range of the router?

You can get a repeater (wireless hub that you can plug in anywhere) and/or (depending on who makes your router) an upgraded antenna on your router/ nic. Other than that.... some nics simply work better than others.

The World Health Organization has concluded that serious health effects (e.g. cancer) are very unlikely to be caused by cellular phones or their base stations[4][5], and expects to make recommendations about mobile phones in 2007–08.

Oh yeah, that really backs up your point there.
That entire article is riddled with speculation and inconclusive studies, which if I am not mistaken is well outside of the bounds of what a rational person would consider "scientific proof that living next to a cellphone antenna is bad to the health."

Do you even read the sources you post?

Blah blah blah blah I want to know about routers not about your trolling.

What about protecting my "wireless network" to prevent people from putting files inside my computer and using my internet connections, how do I do that?

Then don't post what amounts to speculation and call it a proven scientific theory.

As for protection of your wireless network, WPA (or WPA-PSK) is the best wireless protection for a home network. WEP is only good if you want to keep your neighbors from logging onto your network by accident. In either case a person would have to input a password in order to connect to the wireless network.

Once you get the router, it'll give you directions for getting into the setup page over your browser (and it'll probably involve typing "192.168.1.1" or something similar). From there you'd navigate around to "security" or something similar, where you'd find options for the type of security (None, WEP, WPA, WPA-PSK), and once you chose one, you'd set a password.

It sounds a little complicated but it's actually not. It's difficult to get more specific without having a specific router, but that's the gist of it.
