You could also get an external enclosure or open an external harddrive case and put it in there (assuming it has the same interface) and copy it that way (although I guess it'd be kind of slow unless you are using something that isn't USB)
Some of the drives currently inside my PC came from external drives I opened, so yeah, it's the same.
Ofcoarse they are IDE and I had to install a PCI card (with 2 IDE ports) to fit them (My PC only has one IDE port and my DVD drives use it) but the fact remains.
