We all live in this planet living day to day without worrying about the future,we are stuck in a cycle of consumption as the world population continues to increase,we got wars going on in some parts of the world, and I ask myself,Wars are horrible..but aren't they necessary? Sure making homes in other planets sounds nice in theory but its really expensive and by the time we successfully terraform another planet,it might already be too late, so like I said are wars the only solution? If we had no wars we would die anyways when the planet`s resources died out, plus on top of the current wars we got all those natural disaster going on that been prophesied by both religious people and scientists.

Is there really nothing to be done? I'm just a simple man who will be nothing more than an electrician or a plumber,am I stuck here living everyday just waiting for someone/something higher than me to come and kill me?

And one last thing, why is reality scarier than fiction? In fiction the bad guys always have a weakness(whether its a vampire or a terrorist),but in reality sometimes they don't...I would rather fight demons in hell than have to kill another human

Meh I know I'm gonna get dissed by alot of you..maybe this is the wrong forum to post in..but..

We are created so that we may spread our genetic code in order to create future generations of our race,if one dies without creating offspring it renders his/her existence meaningless

What do you mean 'created'?

I'd argue that 'spreading your genetic code' seems pretty meaningless too in the grand scheme of things.

And what's wrong with our existences not having inherent meaning? FUCK YOU. If I want to eat 1,000,000 waffles in my life and that is my life goal it damn well will be.

what are you a hippo?
bad guys in real life have tonnes more weaknesses than vampires, a steak through the heart of a person will kill them too and it'd be much easier to get close

imps in doom took 2 direct shotgun blasts to die, and if you only hit them once they'd be fine

if someone is out to kill you they can kill you fairly easily, is that your point?

don't make enemies and it won't be a problem!

What exactly is the point you are making here? It's really expensive to terraform to another planets and it might be too late and this is why wars are the only solution... what? How are these related? The only solution to what? And why are wars necessary? They might be (nearly) unavoidable in some cases but necessary? Anyway, I'm really confused as to what you are trying to say here. And this IF THERE WERE NO WARS WE WOULD DIE ANYWAY is a ridiculously dumb thing to say.

Yes they do. And reality isn't that simple. A BAD GUY, A GOOD GUY, A WEAKNESS. Seriously, no.

Lol, seems like you finally realized how harsh reality really is, I think that was his main point DS.

There are somethings that can help ease your mind though and cope. There are other things you can do to actually contribute, big or small, it doesn't matter.

Somethings can help you cope with reality is to define yourself... There are many things that can help you define yourself too! Here are some of my suggestions, I don't do everything here but they're said to help, right?

Physical Well-being:
Excercise is one of the most useful ways to stay healthy and get your mind off on how much the world suffers. When you sit there and take in everything too much it really just has you feeling depressed man, I feel ya. Too much of anything isn't good for you.

Excersing can really clear your mind though and with a good nutrious eating habits it really helps ya! Aside from the healthy benefits, it can actually help compose YOU and your identity... Keeps you more resolved too.

Education:

This doesn't just mean specifics like what majors to take or anything. I mean, basically keeping your mind sharp. Being educated and reading up/forming opinions on both your profession and life itself really helps you become more aware of things. I heard some electricians thoughts on some hot issues, and they were fucking great. Keeping your mind sharp by engaging in the understanding of things helps us become better at actually reading and understanding situations more.

You can also engage yourself personally by reading up on some of the issues of the world and trying to form your own opinion - with morals and perspective accounted for (people just don't do this much). What I'm basically saying is don't be a big ignorant biological dope. A lot of us live in a democratic society and voting without little to no thought involved (I saw his picture on me lawn). Although all man made laws and social systems have their flaws, it's what we got to work with.

Religion:

Yeah, go ahead and flame me for this! But a greater purpose in life is really necessary. If you look at life as a perpetual chain of events and human life as just a biological thing (eat, sleep, shit, die, etc)... Then you will really feel helpless as well man, even if your contributing.

I'm not saying to go out there and take in any religion with out thought. Do some good research and you might be suprised at your findings. Choose what best suits you and feel is the most accurate/relates to the most. Some religion core is really great aside from all the shit people slap on them...

If you don't want to go as far as becoming religious. You can at least start off by accepting that there is a greater purpose then just our lives on earth (plus it wouldn't make sense that all these criminals that destroy our world everyday will be getting off scott free).

Contributions:

Small or big contributions to the greater good is always great! Remember, it's these contributions that help us change the world for the better. I guess you can start off by incorporating some good morales into yourself. Also, a good philosphy is to understand what's right and what's wrong, WHILE understanding the people perspective.

Life isn't black or white, it has an enormous amount of shades! I'm sure that if you can compose yourself well... You'll generally make better decisions in life overall. You'll also be more helpful to your society as well.

As for contributions, you can make small or big contributions. You know, homelessness is an issue that's litterly visual to our daily life, but it's sad that a lot of people still don't give a flying fuck. Reach out to the people around you and try and help them in anyways you can. The great thing about our society is that there is litterature on these things too! It would be your job to try and sift threw the bullshit stuff though (keep your mind sharp).

Human nature is really ironic... We say "Oh, I would do X if I saw X". Yet, when that exact scenario happens to people, they do like the complete opposite to what they initially said.

As for bigger contributions, if your serious about it you can go as far as changing your very profession! I think this is a bit drastic, just a small suggestion.

Again, with all the good things you do in your life... Don't forget about yourself. I actually just watched Saw 4 and they were ranting about that throughout the movie, how Ironic!

Do what your capable of doing!

I have some suggestions if your really want me to go into it. I was being quite vague in this topic, sorry.

I'd much rather discuss different ways of killing Doom enemies than this topic.

In practice, there's nothing to be scared of. While it's true that someday a nuclear war may break out and cause your death, you shouldn't worry about that. Maybe you should listen to the wise words of Bob Dylan: "And some people thinkin' that the end is close by. 'Stead of learnin' to live they are learning to die."

EDIT: by the way, you're best off just playing Doom instead of worrying about this.

Come on. Shoot it in the face.

Hmmm, I think I misunderstood some parts in your topic there Ottoman.

I think some of my points are still valid though. I agree with Dada and everyone else on this one.

Were going to die and you're just going to have to accept that as an inevitablility.

Edit:

I'm officially done with long posts.

Right. I'll reiterate for clarity: the song is about people who are "learning to die". In other words, they worry about it even though there's nothing they can do about it. Basically, he's telling the listener to go out and live, because when you do that, you'll be content when you go down into your grave.

Life does seem kind of lame if you think of the grand scope of history and time, it's like our lifespans are a mere blink of an eye.
However, if you think of the existence and influence of a single person, it really is like a butterfly effect.  Suppose you went back in time and eradicated a single human being, entire generations of families would cease to exist.
Beyond the idea of passing on genetics, even viewpoints and opinions of the people that once surrounded that person would be altered.  Some don't realize it, but we are vastly altering the future by our very existence.
Suppose Hitler was never born, or a few choice events didn't occur in his childhood, or a friend gave him a piece of advice in his early years; maybe the Holocaust would have never happened.
I know it sounds like a bunch of "what ifs", but it's interesting to think about the big picture once in a while instead of one's immediate surroundings.
keep posting...
