AND IT WAS AWESOME :D

i have never been to an anime convention before, nor have i cosplayed. but today, i went to Youmacon (and i had to get up at 6:30am! xO ) and i cosplayed (well, crossplayed) as L from Death Note! it was awesoooooome~! yeah i suppose i am a total nerd and all, haha. but i am a closet nerd; you'd never be able to tell that i am the kind of person who goes to anime conventions and dresses up.

anyways, i got pictures:

i met Hyper Strike, who was in the final 3 (i think) of "Who Wants to be a Superhero?" season 2! he is an acrobat and martial artist and all that good stuff. he came to Youmacon as a guest and i got to take a picture with him. :D he was like super muscular and awesome.

Pac-Man! I got a hug from him, too.

Hehe, Master Chief. (and that "desu" person...)

chopper from One Piece! haha :D

Pants Man. he was at Youmacon last year, too.

DOMO-KUN! :domo:

Pizza Gundam. (he was later seen dancing to The Spoony Bards in the lobby.)

OBJECTION!

Hamburgler...? xD

some Lolita girls (they had a lolita panel that i went to). :D

so yeah. it was a fun time. :D there were plenty of weird people there, haha. and i of course got to pose with some of them. :P these are the most interesting photos i got. i also got a bunch of videos that i am in the process of uploading to the youtubes.

so, GW, i shall leave you with this:

"lolita" = lola (girl); ita (little)
"lolita" = little girl
lolita = dressing in a way that makes you feel like a little girl

boy you sure do like bringing up conflict and argument in every single thread you post in, huh

Lolita refers specifically to the lolita complex documented and explored by Vladimir Nabokov detailing the sexual attraction to girls of a young age. The complex gets the name "Lolita" from the name of the novel written by above author.

Actually, that's a total myth. Lolita really has nothing to do with anything sexual. The name of the book Lolita comes from Lola Ita... "little girl". The lolita fashion (and "lifestyle") is about dressing to make yourself feel like a little girl. Lolitas don't dress revealingly. There are other fashions like Gal and Visual Kei that can be more sexual and revealing, but Lolitas dress to feel young and make themselves happy, not to please others with how they look.

as NinjaPirate said, lolita is definitely a sexualized term. the fact that the Japanese have reappropriated it to mean the same thing minus, you know, child fucking, doesn't stop those of us with a degree of maturity or ethics from being a little "ewwwww" when people do the same thing and insist it's not sexual in nature at all.

so then why are you like "that's not lolita at all" when it totally is? i'm talking about lolita fashion, not, like, provocative little girls. i'm calling them Lolitas because that's what you can refer to people who dress Lolita as.

Do you even know what the plot of the book is about? (Hint it is about an old guy becoming sexually obsessed with a 12 year old)

Yeah I know, but that's not really related to Lolita fashion. Lolita fashion isn't really supposed to be sexual (most kinds).

because a wikipedia article saying it has nothing to do with sexualization of children, considering the average type of editor at wikipedia, might not accurate, considering how similar they seem.

I mean, it even says ACCURACY IS DOUBTFUL.

that and fat white girls in children's dresses isn't lolita at all...it's more like...lol-ita lmao.

well whatevs, i'm not arguing with you about lolita for a multitude of reasons so whatever, it's not a big deal.

oh and these are the other girls who were apparently dressed lolita (and one guy...?):

Note how she isn't even talking about "Lolita fashion" (which is still predicated over the sexuality of prepubescent girls) DRESSING PROVOCATIVELY has absolutely nothing to do with this perception of sexuality, in fact the sexuality of the person with Lolita complex (I'm fairly sure) stems off of the innocence and purity of the girl. Its like not having sex with a $2 whore, except to the extreme.

basically mkkmypet you really shouldn't be surprised that the first reaction to LOLITA was EWWWW FUCK WHAT THE FUCK considering that in anime communities the term lolicon means underage porn and in most english speaking societies it means CHILD SEX.

and even if wikipedia claims it has nothing to do with sexualizing children, it seems pretty clear that frilly children's dresses with low hems and corsets and cleavage are not exactly doing their best to separate the two.

When did you turn 13 mkk?

No, seriously, anyone who says that gothic lolita art/ fashion has no ties to a peculiarinterestinthelittleones has no say in the matter. They, along with the majority of the fandom, where swept up by the lolfauxgothic styles and have yet to read into it farther than it's face value. The sexualization might be a bit of a stretch, but there is definately an ongoing theme of simulated/youth. This applies fashion aspect to a much lesser extent, but the bonets/ obscenely large bows/ whateversemblanceofelaboratechildfashion are still obvious throwbacks to the latter.

And this is coming from a person who has been familiar with the fandom for years. I myself have no particular interest in it, though I have designed some outfits before (what can I say, I love pin stripes and I need excuses to use them when I can).
