RF Online went F2P about a week ago. I used to play it for a bit in beta; besides the grind (its a fuk asian mmo after all ​)it wasn't a bad game. The PvP is well developed and somewhat balanced, and the Chip Wars that happen 3 times a day can be pretty fun. It's PK-anywhere, but all you'll lose from getting killed is the time it takes to travel back to where you were.

Personally, I like PK-everywhere cause it strengthens ties with levelling/PK parties and guilds. Nothing beats an uber-teamup to beat the crap out of people. It's definitely not for everyone, though.

There are 3 factions fighting it out, the Accretians, Cora, and Bellato. The Accretians are robots that have great defensive and pretty good offensive ratings, but no force (magic) powers. They cannot be the Spiritualist class. The Cora have the strongest force powers in the game, but are the weakest in defense. The Bellato are well-balanced midgets who can't quite match the destructive force of the other races, but the balance they have allows them to hold their own against any of them.

The "unique" classes of every faction can be fun, I hear. Accretians have Launchers who are essentially gunners with massive damage output but slow speed, Cora have Summoners who summon one of a few entities to fight or support alongside them (duh), and Bellato have Drivers, who can pilot machines that deal a lot of damage and have great defense ratings as well.


I'm giving it another go once the servers empty out a bit. I've been looking for a decent PvP-based F2P MMORPG for a while. I've heard both good and bad things about this particular game, so I'd like to see it for myself.

What are the female characters like in this game? Im not being perverted or anything its just that my little sister was asking and she only plays as female characters...so yeah...its not like I personally care about the female characters but my sister does...

Ha. All MMORPGs touched by Codemasters suck so much they have to go Free-to-Play in order to get enough players.

Eh, I'll try it out as long as there isn't a catch to the Free-To-Play thing, like with most Korean MMOs.

EDIT: Okay, I installed it and it looks and feels like every single other Korean MMO I've ever tried for 20 minutes before giving up.  It has a horrible interface, horrible controls, horrible direction, horrible pretty much everything.  I really hate it!

Nice graphics it doesnt lag even though i got an old video card but..it keeps disconnecting me...

Also the tutorial is fucking long!

Yeah, as with most Korean MMORPGs it takes time to get to the fun bits, in this case the RvRvR aspects of the game. That tends to put a lot of people off, and rightly so. Lots of these games parade features you won't be able to enjoy until after weeks-months of grinding!

Still, I thought the PT system was pretty interesting, and the graphics are good enough to keep me from scratching out my eyes. Everything about this game is an acquired taste, so I suspect not too many people will like it.

They've "fixed" the grind now, you can hit lvl 40 out of 55 in a week or less if you really wanted to, 2-3 weeks if you really focused on maxing PTs. It's sorta annoying having the level cap at 55 cause you always think your leveling sessions are doing fuck all.

Really? I've always liked the Sci-fi style but I heard from players that it was really grind heavy.
I've been looking for a new MMO to play ever since PH R.O.S.E. went down, think I'll give this a try.

There is definitely a lot of grinding, but there is also a ton of PvP to balance it out once you are high enough to participate. The Chip Wars, a major RvRvR event, occur 3 times a day.
