So as of late my computer has been having this problem more and more. In the middle of use, it will suddenly restart, flashing a blue screen and then restarting as normal. Wish I had more information, but that's it. I've scanned for virus' and nothing came up, so I'm not sure what to do! It's getting rather annoying! Any help is much appreciated!

The computer isn't that old (about 3 years) and i'll help with any additional info needed

Sounds like textbook overheating of hardware. Is it only doing this during really CPU intensive or graphic intensive operations? Have you tried monitoring temps with a program like Everest or Speedfan? When was the last time you dusted out the inside of your case with a can of compressed air? Three years worth of dust can cause quite a lot of heat to become trapped.

Also, the fan on your CPU or GPU could be failing and thus not dispersing heat properly, or it could be a simple case fan failure as well. What sort of PC is it? A premade Dell/HP/etc dealie or something you built yourself? As well as monitoring temps, you might want to use Speedfan or something else to check what RPM your fans are running at, in case it's too low to deal with heat.

If you can't tell, we're going to need more info before we can give you more specific answers.

Ok, I'm downloading speed fan right now. The thing is though, the restart can occur when I'm just idling, but typically when I'm using some sort of combo of AIM, Firefox and iTunes, but that's about it. I did a quick google search and it suggested to disable this "auto-restart" when I get a blue screen so I can get more info on what's going on. Once I can check out the fan speed/heat and stuff ill get back to you

The same thing happened to me a while back, whenever I played a game or something my comp. would randomly restart, it would also restart just idling, but not as much. It turned out to be my power supply not giving enough power to my comp. I fixed it by buying another PSU. Try to download something that checks your voltage, if your getting less voltage than on the side of your PSU, it might be the same problem I had. Heh, it took me about a year to figure out it was my PSU, so much needless frustration.

p.s. can it really be over heating if it can happen within a minute of a restart with just firefox running?

if a fan is loose/dying/dead/disconnected on your proc your system could overheat within seconds of turning it on.
