I picked it up the other day and can hardly put it down. I like all the references and throwbacks to other Mario games (seeing the Koopas walk on all 4's was unexpected, I was like WTF but remembered they did that in the first game).

I got it a few days ago. Been playing it with my girlfriend whenever we get the chance (have a little over 30 stars so far). It's a great game but it's very easy. If they made it more difficult, it'd be a near-perfect game.

Actually i've been hearing it's easy but i've had trouble with several things. I have a couple stars I have no clue how to get (secret stars) and some bosses were not SUPER EASY, namely Bouldergeist. REALLY fun game! I love ice skating.

Y'know I had convinced myself that like usual the internet was just over-hyping a game that while possibly being good isn't quite as good as you'd be lead to believe. But in the case of this game it really is as good as the hype says. I can't remember the last time I've had this much fun in a videogame. In fact I didn't even like Mario 64 as much as this one (seriously even though I'm in that "most games nowadays aren't as good as the classics" boat with everyone else this game competes with Mario3 in my book). I usually like my games extremely hard but I think being easy works in this game's favor in the same way it did in the older 2D Mario games.
This game & Bioshock have reminded me why I play games, not for the pretty graphics or even the story but for great, fun gameplay.

=EDIT=

Done with that.

That's pretty cool! Silent J, i've had some experiences with insane stars as well. People who complain this game is too easy have NOT gone for it all.

:fogetlaugh:ROFL OMG I just realized that you don't have to get all of the coins in that one, there's like 50 extra ones and you only have to get 100! I just got 96 pof them and failed but im going to go for it again!

Yeah, the ice skating's a blast. Wait till the Daredevil run with bouldergeist. And did you know you can turn backwards and skate by pressing Z?

This challenge puts them all in a little arena-like ring. The fatal flaw here is you can't run around to collect them. You have to use the extremely sketchy pull-star system to make your way around. Not only that, buy the ring is lined with bumpers, explosives, and coins positioned in every single possible space they could cram them. How Nintendo let this slide as possible, let alone plausible is beyond my imagination.

What? That sounds awesome. Is that the area where you had to do the race? I really like the pull-stars. I have a lot of fun flinging Mario around and catching him.

Man I really wish my roommates were gone this weekend. I haven't been able to touch the game since I beat it.

New discovery: I found a hidden move! Try and do a stomp and a spin at the same time and it does this really cool slam where he lands on his feet. After a little experimenting, i found out it homes in on enemies and npc's! Its like that homing shield from sonic 3D blast, but harder to execute.

That run was easy (although it was the hardest part I've played so far). I really don't see what people find hard about this game at all. I kind of wish there would be a daredevil run for the entire game. That'd make it an assload more challenging.

Still a great game, but yeah, would be much better if it was harder.

The level design is really fantastic. The levels have a lot of variety and are insanely fun but I do think all of them, even the largest ones, are too small. There's little to no exploration because all the star quests so far have been very linear. I really miss larger levels, I loved wandering and finding cool stuff in Mario 64 but in Galaxy, it's like playing a sidescroller in 3D, you know? It's cool in a way since the are no boring moments whatsoever and it's a lot of fun all the time but I can't help but miss exploration and large, open-ended levels. Not that Mario 64's levels were that huge but definitely larger than Galaxy's.

I know I'm bumping this, but Christmas just happened so some people probably just got this. I have to agree with this point. The game does feel too much like a Point A to B type of game. Which isn't necessarily BAD, but it does make me long for huge levels you explored from any angle like in Mario 64. The stars dictate exactly how you get to each point. And though each obstacle up to the final gold is challenging and fun, it'd be more fun if you could get the same star in more than one way.

Now with that said. It is VERY fun. Probably the best game I've played in a long long time. I already beat it and I got it two days ago :).

I did like how in Mario 64 and Sunshine you could explore the levels in your own way and figure out how to get the stars/shines, but I think the linear challenges of Galaxy work pretty well.  Sure, you lose the ability to explore vast worlds, but it keeps the action from getting repetitive by offering a new challenge with each route through the level.

Yeah, I just got to play this game a few days ago, and it's practically one of the most addicting games that I've ever played.  Even though it's frustrating at times (because of the whole nature of the game in the first place), it's still amazingly fun to play. :)

If you ask me (lol nobody did) the linearity is a definite throwback to the classic style but because Galaxy's level design is so top notch it's never really a problem NOT exploring.  You're constantly compelled to play "just five minutes more" so you can see what new challenge (relatively speaking) is over the horizon.

My only complaint (and it's a really stupid small one) about the game is the same as every Nintendo game: too much talking.  It's an odd thing to say considering very few Nintendo games actually have spoken dialog, but I find it very annoying when a cinema interrupts me and it's a billion hours long.  90% of Galaxy's cinematics where in the opening but anyone of you who've played Super Paper Mario or Luigi's Mansion knows exactly what I'm talking about when I say that Nintendo could beat Hideo Kojima in terms of WALL OF TEXT.

I also didn't like how lives where basically there to throw away.  You only had 3 health without the powerup and if you fell, you died.  50 starbits gave you a one up so it basically didn't amount to anything.  In Mario 64, gameover didn't even mean that much but atleast when you died you where thrown out of the world you were in.

Yea, when I was playing it I adknowledged that it definitely felt like a throw back to the older 2D games. Which is GOOD. But also bad since it IS 3d.

This game is addictive. I'm at 65 stars right now. Trying to get Purple Coins on Luigi. That one is pretty dang hard.
