The level design is really fantastic. The levels have a lot of variety and are insanely fun but I do think all of them, even the largest ones, are too small. There's little to no exploration because all the star quests so far have been very linear. I really miss larger levels, I loved wandering and finding cool stuff in Mario 64 but in Galaxy, it's like playing a sidescroller in 3D, you know? It's cool in a way since the are no boring moments whatsoever and it's a lot of fun all the time but I can't help but miss exploration and large, open-ended levels. Not that Mario 64's levels were that huge but definitely larger than Galaxy's.
I know I'm bumping this, but Christmas just happened so some people probably just got this. I have to agree with this point. The game does feel too much like a Point A to B type of game. Which isn't necessarily BAD, but it does make me long for huge levels you explored from any angle like in Mario 64. The stars dictate exactly how you get to each point. And though each obstacle up to the final gold is challenging and fun, it'd be more fun if you could get the same star in more than one way.
Now with that said. It is VERY fun. Probably the best game I've played in a long long time. I already beat it and I got it two days ago
