"American Gangster is a 2007 crime film written by Steve Zaillian and directed by Ridley Scott. The film stars Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe. Washington portrays Frank Lucas, a real-life heroin kingpin from Harlem who smuggled the drug into the country in American service planes returning from the Vietnam War. Crowe portrays Richie Roberts, a detective who brings down Lucas' drug empire."

... being the lazy person I am, I simply copied and pasted the synopsis from Wikipedia.

Anyways, the film was released last Friday (November 2, 2007) in the United States. I'm not sure when it releases internationally or anything, because I don't keep up with that.

I went and watched in Friday night and I can say that it is one of my favorite movies released this year. I believe that Denzel Washington gave a stellar performance, as did his counterpart Crowe. Though the movie is a little bit on the long side (2 hrs and 37 minutes!), I sat through the movie with a surprising amount of ease. Usually, I lose interest in long films, but this one was paced so well that I was engrossed almost the entire time. There WERE a few moments I pulled out my cell phone to check the time, but that was just because I was on a strict curfew.

So far it's been received quite well, and personally I suggest that if you haven't that you go and see it.

I went into this movie with really high expectations and came out disappointed to be honest. It lacked the style and flair I thought it would have, and to be honest I think the run time of over 2 hours was a big stretch. Crowe's divorce plot line was totally unneeded, and instead of a concentrated gangster epic it comes of as an overly long gangster drama. The best scene in the movie, hands down, is when ... well you know what I mean if you've seen it. Anyway, I expected the whole movie to be that way, but it just wasn't quite at that calibur. Oh well, Denzel's performance rules the stage as usual.

4/5 Fogets

Hell yeah. That was my favorite scene. The line he says afterwards was the perfect cherry on top.

I'm pretty interested in seeing this. The cast is good, the cinematography looks great and it's getting good reviews. What's the worst that can happen? (Note: It can be The Departed v2)

I wouldn't say it's that stylistically, but it's definetly The Departed v2 in the fact that it's obviously trying to be more then what it is/an instant classic, which leaves me more unsatisfied then anything.

Loved this movie, as it was based off of a true story (even though some events may have been slightly exaggerated) but the core idea and facts were the same... Denzel brilliant as always and Crowe doing this thing as well
Insert anything here
