Yeah, that article was back when AMD was better than Intel. It's a lot different now.

Intel is better than AMD. =/

I would easily go for a quad core if you're looking to upgrade now. It's going to cost you a little bit more, but you won't be having to upgrade for a few years. Since you say you're pretty hardcore, I would definately recommend it. As long as you upgrade to a dual core though, you should be fine.
The biggest performance boost is still going to be the graphics card though.

really? thats not what nvidia said, hmm i guess it depends on model. Ok lets say your right, could my 800W power 2 8800 ultras? a QX6850? and the rest?
I was referring to magicbush's system. I've seen some 8800GTX/Ultra SLI systems with quad core processors running at 600-800 though, so it is possible.

fuck off thanks... haha whatever. Next time please clarify that you are talking about CRYSIS and not just ANY FPS. Because believe it or not, there are a shit load of FPS's that you can do x16 FSAA on.

EDIT: doh! I see what happened here. Curses multiple meanings for the acronym FPS.  :fogetshifty:
yeah next time dont tell me im talking out of my ass then :)
and yeah you dont need 1000w for anything at the moment. i just got one because hopefully that means i wont have to upgrade it for a while, heh.

A Kilowatt supply, fuck me. That must be expensive to run power-consumption wise.

Although, if you've got the money to buy such a rig, I doubt you give a bugger.

(This hypocrite is running 750W supply with 8800GTS)

Just because it's a 1kw psu doesn't mean that it will constantly run at that wattage, thats just its max.
