I'm starting to build a computer but before I decide on any parts, I'd like to know about this SLI thing. Is it worth investing in? Does anybody have any experience using it?

Mind you I'm not looking to break the bank with my PC, but if it's a solid investment I won't mind spending a little extra.

I use SLi, I love it, it's great.

Depending on what your interests in gaming are, you probably wouldn't need it. If you want to get an ultra high end computer, then the obvious choice would be dual 8800's. If you're aiming lower than that, then don't get SLi. Theres really no point in buying two 7200's if you can just get an 8500 or something. However, supposedly something like two 6800's are more powerful than one 7900.

I'm not too smart so don't base your final opinion off me.

As much as this article is long and kinda boring, I recommend you read it. I think it will answer a large portion of your questions:

I have sli, and I highly reccomend it.

Also its implications aren't just super high end.

I got two 7600 GTs for 90$ each, and I got the same performance of cards that were 270$ at the time.

I'm currently planning to get an 8600 GT, which runs about as fast as my current sli config. Then later on I can throw down another 90$ (or less) and have near 8800 speeds at 3/5 the price.

It's great if you can only afford one good video card, cause you can just throw in another one whenever you can afford to.

Thanks for the input guys. My only question left then is

What kind of power supply should I be looking at to support 2 video cards?

We need to know a little more information about your current setup.

...

Something over 700.. around 900 should cover most pcs.

yeah, 700 is really as much as youd need at the moment imo.

or if you want just get a ridiculously powerful one, that way you wont need to upgrade for a while!

Without knowing what he actually runs.... I was trying to be safe. I myself went for a 480w and it's doing fine.

500-600w should be fine unless youre running something cutting edge, in which even 700 should be more than enough for.
