Now, see, this is a horrible topic name.  :fogetshrug:

Basically, I have an MP3, right, and I want to separate it into two mp3s: vocals and... instrumental, whatever the other stuff is called. Backing? I followed the tutorial here and took out the vocals just fine, but I'm wondering if it's possible to mute the other... track... thing, and keep the vocals? I fiddled around a bit using the same method as this tutorial but with a few changes, but it didn't come up with anything. I was wondering if anyone knows how to do this?

Btw, I know that there are probably cleaner ways out there to remove vocals and whatnot, but that doesn't worry me; I'm not after an especially clean cut, just rough will do.

It's not particularly perfect but it works somewhat...

Ooh, thanks. Say I don't have the instrumental version of the song, though; will it still work? (I'm guessing not :()

EDIT: durrrr. brainfart!

EDIT 2: Okay, that's not... quite doing what I want. I'll outline the situation I'm in to see if anyone has an idea with this particular... situation.

Okay, so the other day I downloaded Frets on Fire, a Guitar Hero clone much like Stepmania is a DDR clone. The way Guitar Hero tracks work is that there's a separate audio file for guitar, vocals and bass/percussion, etc; the song is split up into several audio files. Now when it comes to custom made songs, this isn't the case, there's usually just one ogg, and when you stuff up a note, it's like SILENCE and is horribly annoying. Now, I could make a double of that .ogg, but I'd like to take it one step further and give a shot at making my own guitar and vocals track.
