I really wish they would elaborate on the other racers, which was the appeal of F-zero. This movie looks like Racer X & Speed Racer & the Racer Family vs the Clinton Administration.

Has anyone seen the commercials for Nickelodeon's second abortion of an attempt at remaking Speed Racer?

Because I think they took my old DBZ drawings from when I was 11 and put them with some CGI cars that have no texture. It makes their previous American-drawn-anime version look like a godsend. I can't find a clip or any images from it, so check out the Nicktoons Channel (my guess is that this is another "destined to fail so let's hide it on the nicktoons channel to be sure and if it magically does well we'll put it on normal nickelodeon" show) and watch this monstrosity of a trailer.

edit: It is called Speed Racer: The Next Generation and is based around Spritle and Chim Chim is a robot.

not sure if he's a robot monkey or normal robot though

Yeah god, I am a Speed Racer fan so this movie was like a giant fan service to me. I love that. When Rex Racer died in the beginning I almost cried. Like, there was so much shit in there I could not take my eyes off the screen.

Really though, I'm not sure what the Wachowski Brothers were thinking cause this movie pretty much has no target audience. The only people who would see it are either Speed Racer fans, or 10 yr olds. The Speed Racer fan's aren't a large number of people. The 10 yr olds however probably wouldn't have the patience to sit through it for 2 hours and 15 minutes, and just don't understand the storyline.

I remember sitting in the theater with all these little kids. There was one scene when Spritle does the middle finger, everyone was going "OOOOOHHHHH" and little kids were yelling "WHAT DID HE DO".

God, I loved that movie. Most inspirational film I've ever seen man.

you know it will probably break your heart but Speed Racer was only popular because it was WEIRD FOREIGN ANIME and because it was something before Robotech took off.

seriously people old enough to remember this won't see it, it's pretty much pandering at the lowest level and from most early reviews not even successful pandering.

2. Very true, when I went to the theater everyone was a little kid with their parents. I could recall maybe one or two parents who've brought their kids to see it because since they used to watch it when they were young. I sat in the back row which also had some fat ass (not being racist) black dude who kept laughing really loud every time a car did something tricked out, and some guy in his late 20's with his girlfriend/wife.

Man Iron Man is destroying the box office, Speed Racer only made 20 million which I'm pretty sure is far below what they wanted.

The movie itself looks pretty cool though. I think I'm gonna go see it with a few friends for fun.

I watched it online this weekend (a pretty decent cam) and it was fucking badass. I really should NOT have liked it as much as I did. Really it was not a very good movie at all but it was just so ENJOYABLE and ENTERTAINING that its many flaws really didn't matter too much because it was just fun.

Totally recommended if you just want something FUN to watch for two hours.

This is an awesome movie, I enjoyed it more than Iron Man probably. The effects are so amazing, you HAVE to see it in theatres, do not wait for DVD because it won't be the same. Their are one too many inspirational speaches, and they could have cut about 20 minutes off to make it better, but its really funny at times, and the action is so good. Don't go in expecting to see a real face, because this is basicly a cartoon on Acid and STeroids.

I saw it, and though I liked it, I didn't love it.
There was waaaaaayyyyy too much spritle/chimchim, unless you are a 10 year old, like some people said.

The effects were amazing, but the movie is very long. I was expecting it to be over after the first big race, but it went on.

Man, this movie looks like Talladega Nights if japfag anime fanboys made it. The racing scenes look like they take place inside a giant clunky pinball machine. This is a movie only fanboys and anime fans can enjoy. Sorry.

This made me laugh, but I disagree. I hate the cartoon, hate anime, and hated Talladega Nights. And the racing isn't supposed to look real...they used all greenscreens and no real cars.

I really liked this movie, it was not what I was expecting at all, it had a real theme to it and everything. I would give it a 8.5/10 in terms of wachability; I mean, the ending race was awsome. it was very insperational.

I watched the cartoon as a kid(as well as the more recent series that aired on nickelodeon in 2002 for a while) and I loved it. When I heard about the movie, I shit my pants. When I saw the trailers, my excitement lowered. Now it didn't look bad but I have a tendency to hate movies that use real actors in a CG environment. I went to see it today to see how it is, boy......wow. When I saw the movie, I realized that the CG environments fit the atmosphere very nicely. I thought this movie(dare i say) was a bit better than Iron Man which was a movie I enjoyed so very much too. Speed Racer blew me away, it really did and even though it was a movie aimed for kids it was a bit more violent/mature than the previous cartoons. I can't imagine how many times they said "Ass" in the movie, lol XD.
(off topic: I also saw an Ad for a new starwars movie before the movie began and wow did it look stupid. However, I am going to see it anyway just so I can finally figure out what the fuck was going on in between ep.2 and 3.)

the best part is how everyone who watched the show when it came out mentions this in their review before slamming the movie as a worthless piece of shit more artificial and colored than a bag of Jolly Ranchers.
