i am going to let you off on a warning. don't do that shit again. i don't care that you don't have any warnings, if i see racism in this forum again, i will ban you. and jeff, if you do not immediately see what was wrong with what he said, then i don't think you're really fit to be a moderator.

Maybe not but generalizing rap as black and making a point to say "black" rap then.

I'm pretty sure he wasn't generalizing rap.

Ok before this turns into another debate on GW's stance on racism...

I think that yeah, this generation has it's share of shit. But that's not to say it hasn't produced it's fair share of quality music too. You can look at the main stream and see plenty of pretty good artists; John Mayer came out with Continuum which was pretty excellent, Talib Kweli and Common are adding their own flavor to hip hop and JT is proving pop doesn't need to suck.

I would say the genres of the time have just changed significantly; you can't really compare a lot of music from now to music from then, they're good but in different ways. If all you do is listen to Led Zeppelin all day you'll disagree.

I ignore black rap, so that doesn't count.

I'm well aware there can be different interpretations but I think it would be pretty easy to guess that he may have been from his comment whether he was or wasn't.

He's not generalizing an entire genre since he is talking about something specific!

Black rap isn't specific at all. It doesn't specify the genre more than RAP except that it's performed by black people.

It's about as specific as "Piano music made by one-eyed people." or "Electronic music made by people with a dick smaller than 18 cm."

Actually those are rather specific...

I agree. John Mayer is a quality artist, Justin Timberlake is ACTUALLY good, Kelly Clarkson is very talented as well. And Josh Groban? Plenty of mainstream music is worth listening to.

I'm not looking to be warned but wasn't that his point? racism is generalizing.  There is no such thing as black rap, he would be generalizing elements of the genre to say there was.

He is giving the genre in general the term black rap.

It's like me saying I don't eat black food. What is black food? Nothing it's a term I derived from my own general opinion.

Dictionary.com : Generalization

5.   to form general principles, opinions, etc.
6.   to deal, think, or speak in generalities.
7.   to make general inferences.

Also I'm really not trying to be a dick here or cause trouble or anything.

So why can't we differentiate between rap in general and the kind with language and issues that are exclusive to black rappers?

Then can we differentiate between black people who steal and those who don't?

I don't know any rap that is exclusive to black people? I know songs that maybe could be but it can be enjoyed by anyone.

Often hiphop is made for the white kid in suburbia even if it talks about niggaz or whatever.

do you honestly not see what is wrong with what he said? he even listed gorillaz and eminem, which shows that he likes rap, but he doesn't like BLACK RAP. NIGGER MUSIC. when he said black rap, he was obviously talking about DIRTY NIGGERS WHO AREN'T AS GOOD AS HIM. do you not get this? are you fucking idiots? i think you are. if you honestly do not see what he just said, then you are a fucking idiot.
