WC, your way of thinking is stupid and that of a snob.
Music is music, it has clasifications but there's no such thing as nonmusical music. That's ridiculous.
Level of virtuosity has nothing to do with it either.
Fall Out Boys play music, as much shit as you may think they are.
Why we think they are shit? Probably because we don't buy what they sell, because we consider it second rate ice cream, and I strongly dislike second rate ice cream, I only like high quality. And what is high quality? It is what appeals to us, whether because we appreciate the effort, the creativity, the catchy hooks, whatsoever.

I think you read too much into what I say. I dont sit around and deem bands 'nonmusical music' with my magic wand to get off for not liking them

I just had to come up with a word to describe what I was talking about so you guys would understand.

but I'm not going to argue with you about the relative quality of any given music because you and I have two completely different perspectives that are not likely to reconcile each other any time soon so whatever

i hate to help this thread devolve further into a pophate argument but
this is a serious quandary for me at times.  i am very unsure about it!

see on one hand i think "man these guys are such products.  this is not art." etc
but then the next thought is kinda "wait, they are not TRYING to be art.  they are TRYING to be products."
so they are successful at what they are attempting, no?
the question then becomes is there something wrong with what they are doing-- but THEN its like
hmm who am i to judge that?

i dont know, its such a strange thing to try to objectively criticize/(validate/invalidate) something so widely considered to be 100000% subjective in nature (music)

To me, it doesn't really matter whether or not I'm deeming them right or wrong.  Regardless of the music that they are playing, it is up to the people who are playing the music to decide for themselves whether or not the purposes for playing music are right and wrong.  As a listener, you can't judge the band's objectives because you aren't in the band, and therefore you can't really know their objectives.

I wouldn't say that there is anything wrong with saying that you think that a band is terrible, or having no respect for their music (in the above mentioned case, I would saying that Fall Out Boy is a terrible band, and that I don't have respect for their music), but I don't consider that the same as judging whether or not their music is right or wrong.

Anyways, get back to the subject chups
