geee. people this is a teaser, what did you expect?
I actually think it's pretty badass. cool guitar riff with america flag + title exploding!!
It's the same cheesy (crappy) stuff from, what, 80's? (okay maybe 90's), which was pretty much given.

Also graphics look passable, maybe they're not Crysis-equal but surely this generation graphics, only with some ugly plastic filter..
The short clips showing other than Duke look pretty cool.

Because it hearkens back to early 90s when big buff white guys with sunglasses who spat out one-liners was cool.

Good times eh!

Yeah this was kind of lame.  I'm past the point of even think Duke Nukem Forever is funny anymore.  I saw a spread in a PCGamer magazine a year or two ago that had some screenshots from the current build of the game, and they looked much better than anything in this trailer.  I'm pretty sure that this trailer is made from footage recorded in a prototype build and not even in the final engine?

Well, at least it has strippers.  :-\

I think one of the youtube comments on the teaser I found sums it up:

Too much negativity from here about this simple teaser.

Quote from: Directly
Last Saturday we had our annual company Christmas party. It was a lot of fun as usual but it featured one special surprise. It turns out that several people had been secretly working late nights and into the wee hours of the morning preparing a special video for those at the party. They created a short teaser for Duke Nukem Forever.

After seeing the teaser we thought it was something we should share with all of you and while it's just a teaser, rest assured more is coming.

Tomorrow, Wednesday the 19th, around noon CST, we will release the first teaser trailer from Duke Nukem Forever. To tide you over until then, there has been a screen shot taken from the teaser and posted in our forums. Check it out here.

Thank you for being fans of the game and for your continued patience.

We'd like to thank the people on the team that worked so hard to create this teaser and the friends of 3DR that helped create it (Jeremy Soule and Julian Soule, Frank Bry, Jason Evigan and of course, Jon St. John).

UPDATE: Here is an update that George Broussard made online this evening:

    Guys just to manage expectations...

This is a teaser. It's not a full blown trailer like the 2001 trailer (but something like that is coming). I tried to be clear about that in the message board post, so just bear in mind that it's a teaser :)

    Enjoy.

I love how people think this is all Duke Nukem Forever has to offer. How can you get that from just a simple teaser? At least the people excited about this have a legitimate reason to be excited because this is the most media we've had in years and it shows that not only is the game still in development and not cancelled but also it's making progress.

Again, this is just a teaser and to think that this sums up the ten years of development is foolish. Heck, this wasn't even prepared specifically for public view if what they say is true. Turn on the hate reactor when the game is released or AT LEAST when a real trailer comes out.

Well for one thing:

I kinda feel like these people, these several people who felt the need to work late nights and into the early morning, they probably could have been using their time to, say, work on the actual game. Focus some of that hard work and determination on, y'know, that game that's a wee bit behind schedule.

Also, its kind of weird that they'd go through all that just for a party video, especially when the attendees would probably realize it looks shittier than what they've actually been working on. And then release it to the public, when you know the public already thinks of you either as a joke or are expecting this game to be the second coming, then claim it wasn't really meant for public consumption when everyone's like "Yeah, that pretty much sucked."

Then again, I'm not in the business, so what do I know? This seems like it could very well be a perfectly viable business strategy and not at all doomed to failure!

In conclusion: The reason people are hating on it is because the development team doesn't seem to know what its doing at all.

You're right, what were those people thinking spending their free time doing something for fun instead of doing unpaid overtime work?  How dare they do this!  IS THIS HOW MY TAX DOLLARS ARE SPENT?!

Yeah, why spend so much time making something based on a project you've been working on for the past 10 years for money when you could be doing it for fun? I HAVE SEEN THE ERROR IN MY WAYS THANK YOU MAN.

But no, on a serious note, I'm sure they're not tired of rendering Duke yet. No, no, after ten years, that's got to still be fun.

I think they made a lot of progress, but they started it over after seeing half life 1? Or something like that. I have high hopes for this game, look at the success of Prey, finishing that game also took like 10 years and it's pretty good actually.
Actually Prey was pretty bad. In fact, it was almost garbage for how long it took to make.

The whole story and idea was "interesting" but it wasn't pulled off right. The only stuff that you actually go to do that involved your heritage was the spirit mode which was pretty much a gimmick, and the spirit world thing whenever you "died." And the death thing eliminated any and all challenge to the game. You could NEVER die, and NEVER had to start over. Even after beating the game and go to Cherokee (read: "Hard") difficulty, it was the same. The death gimmick was still there, so there was nothing harder about the game other than enemies took more hits and you probably had to venture to the stupid spirit death minigame more than you wanted to.

In reality, Prey was really bad.

What's the difference between this and rampant pressing of F6/F7 (commonly used as quicksave/quickload respectively)?  All Prey did was eliminate the need of unnecessary load screens by giving you no reason to spam quick-saving/loading.  If anything the game was a lot more fun and fluid because of it.

Regardless, the situation with Prey was different. Prey was passed from one development team to the next. Duke Nukem Forever has been with the same development team (though there has been some changes with some of the members of the team) and has just experienced complete restarts.

I can't say I'm pissed off, since it was something, but I am a bit disappointing that it was only a teaser. I mean, did they actually expect a measly teaser to make people happy after 10 years of waiting? The fact that they couldn't make a trailer for us shows how little progress they've made.

Well, I guess I'll be looking forward to the actual trailer.

No I don't think they did, they made it for some party, and released it for fun.

Apparently we're getting a better trailer "soon" though. And "the release date is still 'When it's done' but we're not switching engine again and we've got a lot of work behind us on this version" (which they have been working on since 2004 so yeah they'd BETTER)

The point of this teaser is not "HAY THIS IS ALL WE GOT,HAPPY NOW?" but to give a "ray of hope" to the fans of duke nukem. It wasn't a big deal to drool over, yeah, but at least it feels like they are working on it, and that is a good thing. Also, people tend to forgot the 2001 trailer.

Something i ALWAYS wish game developers would do is package all the Early releases and stuff that got cut from the final game into like a Bonus DVD or something like that.

Playing the half-life 2 leaked alpha was awesome and it had so much extra cool stuff that they cut. To have something like that but with Directors comentry as to why they cut it would make a rad special feature. That and it would be like 4 or 5 extra half finished games.

Sometimes I wonder that too. Many of them have probably switched to newer games like Halo. But I'm still a fan, and I'm still looking forward to DNF, even if I'm 41 years old when it is released. XD

Being a fan of duke nukem doesn't mean that I can't play other games.
