I'm pretty terrible at finding music I like, or maybe my taste in music is just bad, as I can't really find a whole lot of stuff I really like half of the time, and when I do, I tend to kill it by overlistening to it. Whenever I find a song I like, I check out the band, I tend to not really like all that much from them.

Here are a few bands I've consistently listetened to in the past:

System of a Down
Sum 41
Billy Talent
Rise Against

I've also liked a fair bit of Jimmy Eat World, Papa Roach, Eminem and Black Eyed Peas (dont listen to anymore). Some other random shit I currently have on my MP3 player is Rage Against the Machine, Weezer, and Disturbed. I also like some techno (I have a bit of Daft Punk too)

But I'm pretty much tired of everything I have, I'm just looking for any sort of advice on anything people might suggest I listen to, whether it be bands or just single songs. I need new music, period. If I wasn't so Canadian I would try something like Pandora out to try to find some new music.

Any help is appreciated!   :)

I tried to keep it a little mixed up and somewhat accessible. Maybe you'll find something you'll dig on there.

First, third, and fifth did not work, well, fourth was a duplicate of fourth, but oh well.

The other ones you gave me didn't really hit the mark. Like they weren't bad, but nothing I'd go out of my way to get.

I think there was one Tegan and Sarah song a friend sent me that I listened to for a bit, but yeah, that's it.

Well, you have a lot of popular stuff on there, so I could recommend you a number of things that are similar within that, but I am of the opinion is it important to branch out and try totally new genres that you have never heard before. Had you posted post rock, metal, and rarer electronica acts or something, I might have immediately come up with new bands within those no problem, but as I see it now, recommending you bands similar to those you have mentioned would do you no good in terms of musical exploration. I'm sure there is plenty of music in genres you have never heard of that you would enjoy but that you would never find by just looking for artists similar to those you like already. Therefore I will recommend you a wide range of bands from various genres.

Lets start with metal. Since you like Disturbed, I'm sure you can find something that interests you in the world of metal.
Doom metal: Katatonia, The Great Cold Distance
Power metal: Helloween, The Dark Ride
Death metal: Dark Tranquillity, Character
Progressive metal: Fates Warning, FWX
Gothic metal: Lacuna Coil, Comalies
Post-metal: Red Sparowes, Every Red Heart Shines Towards the Red Sun

How about rock, and not rock that you have probably ever heard of.
Post-rock: Explosions in the Sky, All of a Sudden I miss Everyone
Post-rock: Ef, Give Me Beauty Or Give Me Death!
Classic rock: Dire Straits, Dire Straits
Alternative rock: Gin Blossoms, New Miserable Experience
Hard rock: Blue Oyster Cult, Curse of the Hidden Mirror

Now for electronica.
Avant-garde: Ulver, Shadows of the Sun
Experimental: Coil, Black Antlers
Psychedelic: Shpongle, Nothing lasts...but Nothing is Lost
Psytrance: Yahel, Super Set
House/Trance: Tiesto, Magik 6: Live in Amsterdam
Ambient: Future Sound of London, Dead Cities

Since you are premium, I can upload any number of these to the zoo. Come on into #music and we can talk about it. I'd be happy to give you some of it to sample, even just a song from each and then I can upload whole albums later. I'm sure you won't like at least half of this stuff, but even if you like only one, you'll have discovered a whole new genre of music to listen to.

Sum 41 is fantastic. Haven't heard their newest CD yet.

I think you might like At The Drive-In, Brightwood, Cauterize, and Hidden In Plain View.
