A former Presidential candidate calls for impeachment of Bush-Cheney in an article of the Washington Post:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/01/04/AR2008010404308.html?hpid=opinionsbox1

George McGovern, the guy who wrote the article, is a former United States Representative, Senator, and Democratic presidential nominee. McGovern lost the 1972 presidential election in a landslide to incumbent Richard Nixon.

McGovern, a World War II combat veteran, was most noted for his opposition to the Vietnam War. He is currently serving as the United Nations global ambassador on hunger.

To me, this article is noteworthy because it is one of the first times I've seen where someone of some political clout (albeit former) has called for impeachment at a national level. " He remains a symbol of the political left during the turbulent 1960s and early 1970s when the country was torn by U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War and the corruption and abuse of power of the Nixon administration." -wiki

Would you support an impeachment of Bush-Cheney?  I would if I could.

He should go but it's so late in his term he's almost done it's not even worth it.  Also, Kucinich already did his articles for impeachment before this so it's not the first.

We need more people who were former military actually running in politics (and I'm not talking about Bush who was a foot soldier that didn't see any action).  When you actually know how war works, you have some insight and experience on what the country faces on a morale level.

Anyways, I'd think this was important news... if it came about 2 or three years ago.  This late into the administration and it's just not poignant enough.

It's kind of how do you say, shutting the barn door after the cows got out? (One time I need to use a stupid expression like that and I can't remember it)

Even if its so very late, an impeachment would be of great symbolic value. imma for it.

Wouldn't Bush serve some prison time or some form of punishment with an impeachment?  If so, it would be completely worth it.  Anyone aiming to become an American president needs to know that you can't get away with fucking around like Bush did without consequences.  Most likely, he will get off scot-free, which is complete bullshit.

Not if he got impeached too, which seemed to be implied. Agnew didn't become President when Nixon resigned, remember?

The issue here isn't about getting him out of office, guys, it's about setting the legal precedent that this is not acceptable behavior in the President so that some OTHER screw-up doesn't do this in the future and get away with it. By not punishing Bush for it now just because he's already on the way out, we tell future presidents that they can do the same thing, because the last guy that did it was allowed to carry on, despite his actions being known. That is not a waste of time or money. That is important, dammit.

My point exactly.  What greater dishonor can a president undergo?

If there is not some official retribution on our nation's part, history books will most likely maintain that Bush was a decent president.  All of his bullshit (wiretaps, torture, the elimination of habeas corpus, warmongering, satisfying corporate lobbyists) will be seen as acceptable actions for a president to undergo.  Bastard should have been assassinated, but apparently only really good presidents get assassinated.

Damn it, you beat me to it.

If the President and Vice President are impeached, it falls to the speaker of the house, correct?

My point was that the Vice President only becomes President if he's still Vice President. Agnew wasn't, and if they were removed from office, Cheney wouldn't be either.

Next thing we know, you'll be saying our military needs frivolous things like armor or adequate  equipment.
