No matter how bad these movies (I absolutely hate them), they always seem to rake in ridiculous amounts of money. Its kinda a no brainer that these people will keep making them as long as they keep raking in the money.

It's like pop music

Edit: Of course me and my brother have discussed this, it's not that pop music causes any physical pleasure whatsoever by listening, it's just that they're CATCHY AS FUCK and they've engineered something into the music that lodges itself into your brain like one of those Matrix bugs that was in his belly button

My favorite part is that by the time these come out on DVD, no one cares about those movies they talked about anymore, and our attention spans are so short that no matter how fast they release the DVD, we've still already forgotten.

What terrible shit movies.
No, that's not what happens.  These movies get a fucking UNRATED version that seems to promise nudity (I guess), so everyone goes out and buys it hoping for a cheap thrill.

I punched the back of my brother's head after seeing the trailer, and then started punching his bed.  I was furious.  These movies don't make fun of the movies they're "parodying" but instead just reference the trailers of said movies.  It's despicable.  I can't believe how completely identical they are.

Very true. And what's worse is that the unrated material is just non-senseless, random garbage.

*shakes head in disgust*

Poor, poor K'Sorbo. He must have really needed the money.

aren't the unrated versions mostly the same except for like an extra scene where someone says fuck a few times or there's an added poop joke or something?  like, i remember when i was younger watching the unrated version of some movie hoping there would be titties everywhere and hardcore fucking and shit but it still seemed pretty tame.

ugh. I just saw the trailer for this on TV and almost spit my tea out. I was almost going to make an angry topic about it but fortunately there is a fairly-civil one here already.

I ended a friendship because the guy likes these movies. Okay, there were other things but just go with it.

All I can say is, can you blame me?
Television show I'm currently obsessed with:

You see Diane Rigg in this show? Rawr!

I saw a commercial with some footage I haven't seen today.  In it, a robot aired a YouTube video of Britney Spears on his chest.  They didn't even bother coming up with some pseudo-clever reference.  It physically upset me.
Admiral Robert E Lee: From an alternate reality in which the United States is an archipelago and the Civil War is fought at sea.

It was a transformer parody with a youtube video of the "leave britney alone" guy,
so yeah it was an internet reference but still stupid as fuck and pretty painful to watch.

If they made the comedy subtle, then it would have been a satire and very VERY few satires in film form are ever popular.

The thing is Scary Movie was a parody of Scream, which was a (rather popular) satire of the teen slasher flick. The levels of meta are astounding.

For the record: I liked Scary Movie 1, thought Scary Movie 2 was pretty boring (but to be fair, I was never a fan of the Haunted House genre), and laughed one time during Scary Movie 3: "...and now the killer video that kills you seven days after you watched it, we're the only station that has it and we are showing it all night." This is funny because it is something a station would actually do. For reasons unknown, I saw Scary Movie 4 in theaters, and the only time anyone in the theater laughed was when one of the characters said "Ima put that on MySpace."

"Meet the Spartans" is a movie that could work. Well, the idea of it parodying 300 and by extension, Frank Miller (Like, they could have a little counter in each corner that keeps track of how many female characters are raped and/or become prostitutes) could work, but instead, we get stale pop culture references that aren't even jokes or insightful.

I was thinking about it, and the Brady Bunch movie, which wasn't that many years ago, did a really good job (I think).  It was on TV yesterday and I was thinking about these movies while watching it to see why I love it so much but hate these so much.  The difference is they took something that's ALREADY part of pop culture (and not a throwaway piece of it, one that's already proven to have stuck around) and replicated it entirely, but not OH BRADY REFERENCE HERE'S ANOTHER BRADY REFERENCE BRADDYYYYY REFERENNCCCEEEE!!!!  Still, they DID throw in tons of references, but they put them in in such a natural way that you don't feel disgusted by it.  Even really minor things, like the way Mike talks into the phone the EXACT SAME WAY every time he gets a phone call, were done well--have Carol whisper into his ears and him being saying "OH....I SEE....YOU WILL?  ALLLLRIGHT....".  The cameos are even thrown in nicely, I didn't even see one of them until I had watched it a few times because it's not "HERE IS A CAMEO" right in your face.  You really just feel like you're watching a long episode of the Brady Bunch, except everyone around them is in the 90's.  It's not one-liner after one-liner, unlike these movies which are HOW MANY QUOTES FROM TRAILERS CAN WE PUT IN A MOVIE with no plot.

The fact that that movie wasn't made that long ago (although it could have been like 10 years ago god what year is it now even) makes me think that we could do a better job, and that parody isn't something of years olde.

Because it's a funnier title than Epic Movie 2, Spartan Movie, or something like that.
And there's a sequel to Meet The Parents (Meet The Fockers) from a little less years ago.
