I've been getting this error message since day one of owning this computer.  It usually pops up when I'm opening a program that might want to check for the A drive, but not always.  It also comes up every time I shut down my computer.  Clicking "Try Again" does nothing other than making the window pop up again.  "Continue" and "Cancel" make it go away, but only after a few tries.  The weird thing is that I don't actually have an A: drive. This computer only came with a hard drive ( and a dvd burner (.

I don't really know why the A: drive would be there, it probably happened when I installed XP.  I'm just wondering if there's a way to remove it and if that would be a bad idea?  I'm guessing it'll be fine, but I just want to double check.  Also, if it is ok, do I just remove it from the hardware profile?  Or is there some other way I should do it?

Thanks.

Even if you dont have an A: drive, it's usually enabled in the motherboard bios. Turn off the A: drive in "Standard CMOS Features", set "Bootup Floppy Seek" to DISABLE in "Advanced BIOS Features", and "Floppy Disk Controller" (FDC) to DISABLE  in "Advanced Chipset Features". If you can still see it in device manager, right click on it and select "uninstall" and you shouldn't hear about it again.

I was gonna ask "Is there still people who use floppy disks?" before I finished the whole post. Anyway, good thing you got it solved.

Surprisingly, they still put them in new systems. They seem to be more of a problem than a convenience at this point, however.

Who puts them in new systems? I haven't seen them in relatively new laptops or desktop computers ._.
Do you know the jokes they don't tell gays?

Most big name manufacturers are starting to phase them out, but some other companies still sell PCs with them.
