First things first...

So...what do people think of this? Is it a great idea or a shitty one? Will it last, or will the 'real' Captain America be back in the next arc? Startling reinvention, or a 'Clone Saga'-esque mockery of everything the character stands for?

Personally, I think that this will rock, because:
(a) Brubaker is an awesome writer.
(b) Bucky is cool, especially since he was retconned from 'plucky teen sidekick' to 'stealthy killing machine who does the nasty stuff Cap can't get away with'.
(c) It should shake stuff up and make for some interesting stories, character interactions, etc.

At the moment, my only reservation is that the new costume looks a bit 'meh'... see it here: http://www.newsarama.com/marvelnew/CapAmerica/CapRoss.html

Still, I'm looking forward to this one a lot and am especially relieved that they didn't do a Quesada and bring him back by 'magic'...

I actually looked up 'chode' and it said 'a penis wider than it is long', which is an interesting fact that I fully intend to work into the very next conversation I have with someone. Preferably while they're eating something cylindrical.
Also, pretty much the only people who hate Captain America are the ones who don't read the comics and just assume that he's some quasi-fascist, far-right horrible propaganda character from the name alone... Whereas the comics mostly deal with him actually fighting the government when it becomes too nazi-ish and right-wing and stuff... Also, he manages to pull off the winged-cowl-and-floppy-boots look (respect) and throws a bigass shield at people. Which is cool.

Oh ok

And chode is the area between the ass and balls, also known as taint or gooch

Edit: Or as Webster's would call it PERINEUM

Captain America is awesome, ESPECIALLY with the direction that Ed Brubaker does. I've never had any complaints about his directions towards any characters or stories, as they have always been excellent and very entertaining.

Personally, this new Captain America is a great idea in my opinion. Hopefully it'll be a new character instead of Bucky. Personally, I really like like the costume. Except, I think it only looks good when Alex Ross draws it, otherwise the other variant cover for that specific issue looks like shit.

i say the new one should be Hawkeye.

plus Hawkeye is pretty much in the same situation Bucky/Wintersoldier is in.

no it's not.

chode: a penis wider than long
gooch: area between testicles and anus
taint: area between genitals (male or female) and anus

With genitalia, it pays to be exact.
...Presumably they all have scientific names too, if only because I can't see a doctor saying something like "Bad news, Mister Johnsohn. We've found a tumour on your gooch'.
Well, not with a straight face, anyway.

Wasn't there an issue where Hawkeye was actually offered it by Tony Stark? Anyone know what happened there?

Fallen Son: Captain America. Jeph Loeb, John Romita JR.

One of my favorite comic issues. Basically Hawkeye was offered, he wore the costume for a while, and he didn't take it. Also he's a bit of a pussy too and took the guise of Ronin. Punisher was Cap for a while too.

From what I've heard I believe that the new Cap is a brand new character. Of course I could be wrong.

Lots of people carry guns............

Anyway, I'm fairly certain that the new Cap is the age-advanced son of Steve Rogers and Sally Floyd.  They met on MySpace.

...Why does he have a gun?

So typical of comic book companies to blame the long believed death of a character on the KGB or something.

Captain America used guns during the days when the character was first published.

Arrgh, it's already sold out where I live... A whole bunch of people apparantly bought them all for the sole purpose of sealing them away in airtight bags to retire on in fifty years time... Bastards... Maybe I can get it later in the week...

They should leave the Cap dead and perhaps come back to the character concept in a few years; using Bucky seems a bit soap opera-ish.
