I wish I wasn't still on a low bandwith internet connection, I would try to get into some of the online matches for Garou. Of course, I would probably get completely destroyed now - back when I was playing a lot I was able to beat Grant and Kain with the difficulty set on 8, but only with Rock and Terry, and even then not every time.

This topic has inspired me to locate my a/v cable and dust off my dreamcast for a few matches though.

The Dreamcast version is so bad. :<

I know, but it is the one that I have. To make matters worse, all I have are standard Dreamcast controllers. After any sort of heavy playing of the game, my left thumb is cut to ribbons. Also, considering my DC is an antique, I'm never too fond of the uncanny impression it does of a weedeater engine while running Garou. Oh well.

Assuming I can make it tonight, tonight will be the last night we use MAME for our ranbats. The Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator has been a fantastic program that has been used by #capcom since its creation some 3 or so years ago. Now, thanks to better technology and programming, it is safe to say that it is time to move on to a better program.

After tonight's Garou ranbats, we will be using the program nFBA (Neo Final Burn Alpha). This program supports everything MAME32k does, plus way more, including CPS-3 support (and runs all CPS3 roms better than the CPS3 mame does), more options (including 3 different DirectX ways to render your games), and less memory usage. On top of this, the emulator + netplay (the newest p2p client) provides smooth frame rates even across long distances, and it doesn't have the same outrageous delay that MAME sometimes has, providing a near "real-life" quality experience.

Fare thee well MAME, we knew thee well.

(However, if you want, you can keep MAME32k + our current p2p client, and direct nFBA (I'll post links later) to your MAME's ROM folder, just in case if you can't connect with nFBA for some reason to someone else (router issues).)

Anyway, man.. I SUCKED at first. Couldn't even beat the first match. I eventually worked my way up to the 7th or 8th match with Alex and Ibuki before I just started losing pretty quickly again.

What are some beginner-friendly characters? I'm so used to playing Alpha 3, so this game feels a lot different. Who would you guys recommend I use to get more comfortable with the game?

And oh yeah, naturally tried Ken and Ryu first. Man, I sucked with them.

EDIT: And also, SF4 better have at least one character from SF3. The roster has some real freaks, but some genuinely awesome ones too. Ibuki, Alex, Remy... Yan or whatever, Makoto..

Ken is basically top tier and is very easy to learn.

Just pick his SA3, as its the best because you can use more EX Moves (a move's button movement + two buttons (so an EX Hadoken is QCF + 2 punches) when you have a flashing super meter), and it rules. You can combo it from like.....EVERYTHING HE HAS. Ken rules basically.


Also the final boss is a bastard.

Anyone see the two new Tekken 6 characters? Alisa Boskonovitch and Lars Alexandersson?

Oh man.. Alisa looks like Dead or Alive trash and Lars looks like he escaped from an anime. I'm not liking their looks at all. Namco dropped the ball.

However, customizations are even more extensive now. For example, you can give any character the hairstyle of, well, any other character.

I saw Asuka with Jin's hair. That was pretty frightening.


The amount of detail in KoF12 characters is fucking staggering. The amount of animations as well! Holy.....

KOF12 looks great. I love how they finally made the sprites larger in relation to the screen. Some of the chars look kind of overly buff, however (terry + ralf).

Terry looks like he always has, except on a bigger scale, imo

However, Ralf does look obese.

Obese with muscles, but obese.

Terry was never SF4 buff. His muscles are huge compared to all his 2d incarnations. I bet the look works for clark though.

You know maybe I'm crazy but Terry feels about right. I mean he's a bit more muscular, but he feels pretty good.

the one who REALLY stands out is Robert. the dude is THIN AS SHIT in every single KOF and he is like as buff as Terry now. wtf?

Also, this game better have K' and Ramon. Ramon is the most badass guy ever, and K' rules. too bad Japan hates both of the characters with a passion. K' is like the most hated dude ever over there and Americans LOVE the dude. it's crazy too because K' is HELLA JAPANESE style.

The Japanese don't like K'? What imbeciles. That guy is badass to use and I love his character design.

i like K' because the he looks like Rock Howard and Rock Howard is a badass even if his fatal weakness is women.

k' is great

but he'd be infinitely better if his hair wasn't japwhite and he wore shirts that weren't too small for him
