Oooh shit, it's finally been announced officially. How rad is that? (Pretty rad imo)

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/splash/g/gearsofwar2/default.htm

I have been waiting for this for such a long time. The trailer is not anything special and doesn't even show any gameplay footage (unless you can actually do that whole chainsaw stand off and the flip thing in game which would be probably pretty annoying since I am used to just getting them straight in the back and not having to worry about them fighting back.)

Anyway the GAME FEATURES doesn't really tell us many features of the game save for:

Quote
Gears of War 2 continues the story of Marcus Fenix and Delta Squad, locked in an increasingly desperate battle against the nightmarish Locust Horde for the survival of humanity. Gears of War 2 is an larger-than-life saga of survival, loss, and retribution.

Which just leaves us to hope that Dom, Cole and Baird are all along for the ride.

To add some credibility to this topic, while searching for some info on gears 2 I found an article with a gears of war 2 wish list. All the things people want to see from Gears or War 2. I'll post it here, I'll post my own and then you can post yours.

http://features.teamxbox.com/xbox/1785/Our-Gears-of-War-2-Wishlist/p2/

Some of these I agree with, some I disagree with but here's some things I'd really like to see in GoW2.

Specialist Melee Weapons
Sure there is the chainsaw but when it comes to the point where I have to choose between Longshot, Hammerburst, Lancer. I ditch the Lancer for the most part. When someone has to sacrifice a weapon for the Hammer of Dawn I'll usually ditch the Lancer. I don't always carry that with me. Currently there are your two primary weapon slots, your pistol weapon slot and your grenade weapon slot. How awesome would it be to add a melee weapon slot? You could pick up Baseball bats or smashed bottles and things from the surroundings rather than being limited to either HUGE HUMAN GUNS or HUGE LOCUST GUNS.

Capture The Flag / Balanced Maps
I am not so good at gears of war online. (I am not very good at all.) So I'd really like to see some objective missions like Capture the flag in more balanced maps. The maps at the moment seem pretty unbalanced to me. There are ways that specific teams can obtain advantages and there are maps that let people just free for all from all angles. All it takes is one person to be able to slip behind you undetected and you're a goner. I'd like, combined with the current maps, more maps that force you into face to face situations rather than providing you with 10 different routes that allow you to get behind your enemy.

Roll on November.

Yet another game to look forward to... and so soon too! I watched the video when they demostrated the new engine and it looks like it will be a great addition to what they have already established with the first game.

Looked rather funny when the Locusts all got stuck at the car though

I loved coop in GoW, and besides a seperate slot for your melee weapon like you said (or may the ability to drop that shitty pisol and pick up a third?) I can't think of much that needs improvement. Maybe a sort of "level generator" for much more single player/co-op replay value? I could kill those locust for days, but the SP campaign gets too repetitive and predictable after a while.I didn't go much for multiplayer, so I'm not too sure about all the balance shortfalls of that. Though I will agree someone behind you is pretty much a sure kill for them, as turning around is a bitch. Also close combat is pretty bizzare, either someone gets the kill instantly with the chainsaw, or both of you are strafing and diving around each other missing point blanc shots.

Nothing beats point blanking someone in the face with a shotgun for 0 DAMAGE and then having them kill you in a one hit melee with the pistol.

I'm not looking forward to it.  Gametap reported that Kudo Tsunoda, former head of EA Chigaco, is being put as the lead project director for this game.  For those that don't know, this is the same guy who RUINED the Def Jam Vendetta series by stripping away the Aki engine and throwing in a crappy grapple system.

Specialist Melee Weapons

The only two things I really didn't like about Gears of War were that there were really no decent boss battles and that the weapon selection was pretty lame.  It had all the standard weapons you'd expect from a shooter and nothing more interesting and other than the Lancer all of them felt pretty wimpy and weren't fun to play with.  I hope that their focus on new weaponry extends outward from Melee and goes on to include new or improved guns.

They've most likely been working on it since the release of the first game.

Im pumped up for this but as for melee weapons slot... you can just go around pistol whipping people. it's pretty much the same thing as a baseball bat if not worse (down people in two smacks omg). I used to play in gears tourneys so I dont really care what multiplayer options are available as long as warzone and annex make the cut, i wouldnt mind a FFA option either.

And the vehicle part was fail. Lets have some dual chainguns mounted on the top, and locusts coming at us instead of the majority of the cast from "Pitch Black"

maladroithim - agreed, the weapon selection was rather slim. I wanted a much better close range weapon than the shotgun, and not necessarily a melee one. And though the sniper was great, I would have preferred something in between that and and the machine gun. Something that I can just shoot a few rounds in their head to kill them instead of emptying a full clip.

More bosses, less driving, chainsaw vs chainsaw action and more explanation of the actual story... oh and better multiplayer. If I get that, Im happy.

If there someone I'd pick to least link with GoW, It'd be that guy.

But yeah, it looks great! I wasn't big with on the multiplayer, (probably because I sucked ass) but a big improvement would be a 180' turn, like in Resi4.

Better/More Multiplayer Modes
Branching Single Player (or longer than 5 hours like FPSs are nowadays)
Include Carbine
Shotgun less powerful/inconsistent
More emphasis on ACTUALLY USING COVER in multiplayer.
4-player co-op (duh)

They have a lot of work to do.
formerly known as isithardcor3

this is a OLD banner. the game itself is about 60% done.

Meh, I thought the first GoW was pretty boring (loads of bland enviornments) so I guess I'm expecting the same from this.

I could care less about GoW 2. The first one was fun, but there was nothing "OMG WOW" about it. It was just kinda fun. There are a multitude of other games I'm looking forward to this year FAR more than GoW 2, such as Spore and LittleBigPlanet, just to name a few.

They need to show some improvement over the first Gears of War. While I LOVED the game(playing on a 102" projector multiplayer gives instant gratification), the single player was too short, and the multiplayer didn't have enough modes.  It was also loaded with bugs that they never fixed. I love how people could stick you with a grenade from 6 FEET AWAY and how rolling was bugged to hell. If you rolled, you either were going to get killed in one hit from a shotgun(even though you rolled past the person), or you were stickied. Let's not even mention the chainsaw.

I like the improvements they did to the Unreal 3 engine though. I'll definately be picking this game up in November.
