Here is the first entry for GW Iron Chef's 2nd round. I got together with my girlfriend and we had a lot of fun with chickpeas. If you know what I mean.

Anyway, here are the ingredients:

Sunny Chickpea Tomato Soup

Our appetizer was a soup (what a huge surprise). It was made of chickpeas, tomatoes (both red and yellow) and chicken stock. We seasoned it with garlic, cinnamon, lemon juice and a variety of peppers. It was served with some parsley and a spoonful of creme fraiche. I'm not lying when I say that this was one of the best soups I have ever had.

Eastern chickpea patties with rice and salad

For the maincourse, we decided to make falafel-inspired patties from chickpea paste seasoned with cumin, coriander, salt, garlic and parsley. We didn't deep-fry them (like you do to falafel) but instead opted for a healthier choice and cooked them in the oven. The patties were served with rice and salad. The salad had a garlic dressing while the rice & patties had plain yoghurt and salsa sauce on them.

Chickpea pancakes with whipped vanilla sauce & syrup

We didn't find the dessert as impossible as Wash Cycle hinted. We opted to make a variant of the mediterranean snack la socca. They are basically chickpea pancakes made from gram (chickpea flour). Our variant used whole ground chickpeas and it was seasoned with honey and sugar and served with whipped vanilla sauce and syrup. They too were pretty delicious even if I say so myself.

All 3 dishes together

It was a great meal and we had a lot of fun doing this.

The rice mound on the main course looks like it has ruptured and ketchup is pouring out of it.

All of this looks really good.  Also, I don't really like Chick-Peas,  but that pancake dessert looks awfully good to me.  I don't have the time to participate in this (Senior Research, please keep having these, in a couple of months I'll have all the time in the world).

This is probably not the best thread to be looking at on a Sunday when all the shops are shut and there's no food in the cupboard. Excellent work man.

If you read carefully you'll find out that we didn't actually use chickpea flour. You can still do it!

Thanks for the feedback guys.
