A personal favourite shredder.

His piano stuff is most jaw-dropping for me though

Man, I used to get Tony and Greg (Howe) mixed up all the time. It wasn't till I started checking out their stuff that I learned Tony is a bit more neo-classical and Greg is more jazz based. Both are amazing though. Man, all this talk about shred makes me want to start a "Shredders of GW" project or something.

Nowhere near as crazily talented as some of these guys, but far fucking more talented in the actual sound department, we have Mr Greenwood :

(Bit at the end) That's not really the best of him, but there is an mp3 of him live just freaking out with a guitar for like 1:30.
Edit: For those who are interested found it, http://www.box.net/shared/837fh8xcs0

A personal favourite shredder.

him using delay while explaining shred techniques is really annoying!

Quote
blah blah radiohead vid

I'd agree that what radiohead is doing compositionally is way more interesting/innovative than what any of these shred guys are doing.

<edit>

wait right this is not about INNOV THIS IS ABOUT SHRED
sorry guys

i don't see how they are really as similar as you say they are. i don't see why you say srv is a hendrix emulator either!

srv was likely influenced by him, yeah, but he's not fucking COPYING his playing style! Of course voodo child is going to sound similar as it is a cover, but outside of that, they don't really sound or play too similarly (really just because they played two different genres of music).

then again, music isn't objective or something to argue about (at least not here), so whatever.

i'm not saying srv isn't good. he was amazing. he just bases a lot of his playing style around hendrix. he's also done about 3,000 hendrix covers so yeah.

that was more directed towards xsmsfpsft but yeah, he did do a fuckton of hendrix covers and was influenced by him quite a bit

i don't think he was an EMULATOR, however!

What I said was about the thousands of covers because I think SRV's playing is more square-y and violent than jimy's so they're very different from that point of view
