Debate American media slowly slumping into the trash? (Read 382 times)

I've noticed that commercials have been getting more numerous and alot longer. Wasn't there some sort of law against more then a few minutes of commercial time per day? I'm sure if there was they found some loop hole. Also if you live in america it's obvious they have gotten a whole lot dumber. Only America has a song about how screwed up coffee shops beverage names are (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2y_GwKzxck) And then we have a whole lot of car commercials, who on earth ever would need 400 horse power in New York? There are some car commercials that are awesome (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFTduBCb7Eo) but are also a great waste of talent. It's Just a car. There are of course commercials that would be great, if they weren't kicked off the air for being the slightest bit offencsive (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nojWJ6-XmeQ). Most of the coming on television are just as stupid, Like one coming out for TV land which is basically Big brother but with a bunch of old people from high school 20 years ago, Sound to stupid to be real? (http://www.tvland.com/originals/highschoolreunion/)
I can just imagine a bunch of people in suits in a  board room pitching these dumb ideas to each other thinking there pure genius.  America's televised media is failing, theres more paid programming,pay-per-view, then actual television shows.
I'm not against televised entertainment at all, and I'm sure you smart enough to know 85% of the time commercials are completely lying to you, but there are many people out there gullable enough to believe what they see on TV is 100% true. Most of the time the only good programming comes on weekends. And the music is almost as bad, Almost every single person under 14 listens to a bands msuic because they think the band looks cool rather then how good there music is, Little girls crave panic at the disco, while little emo boys crave gay music. Our news has followed into the steep slop hole of our media as well, (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Q2EPKKVrqI&feature=user heh heh)

Our media has become

Besides meth that stuff will F*** you up bad.

I read that and I don't even know what you're trying to get across here.  Are you just being posting a cynical rant to get internet cool points?
By the way, this commercial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nojWJ6-XmeQ isn't even American.
Also, you talk about how TV is terrible then post a bunch of YouTube links.  Heh heh heh.

I didn't get this either? Was it just to show off funny commercials? Talking slowly slumping into the trash. I always thought TV already was deep in trash, with commercials being the last bit of goodness left in commercial channels.

If this is anything to do with the standard of advertising then I might actually be in agreement with you. Soemtimes I am actually disgusted by adverts such as Shaver adverts that advertise MACH IVV SHAVING POWER. IT'S LIKE SHAVING WITH A JET ENGINE!!!

If this is a rant about the length of TV advert breaks then I'm probably torn on the issue. TV Companies need the advertising money to be able to run, so despite the fact the adverts are annoying as hell, they are a necessity. If only the advert quality was better.
now is the winter of our discontent

Actually I think advertisements have gotten better, not sure about tv shows but I think commercials have gotten pretty STREAMLINED or something like most are pretty pleasant and easy to ignore - and Burger King commercials are works of art seriously

But yeah saying "lol commercials suck" for the entire basis of your topic is pretty bad (what a newb) that routine got old with Jerry Seinfeld

Or maybe it's just because I've grown up and stopped watching kid's commercials. I changed over to Nickelodeon a couple of weeks ago and seriously all kids commercials ARE meth

Edit: Only thing that profoundly bothers me is how every commercial will be for medication in 2 or 3 years. Seriously. And they all feel either really bad and corny or actually really well produced and a severe waste of talent. Seriously some of these commercials have BEAUTIFUL songs - I wonder if it's someone who just does shit for commercials or if it's like DANNY ELFMAN or someone selling out and doing it on the sly

Edit: Ok Danny Elfman is a bad example but I can't think of anyone who does soundtracks who isn't an action-movie guy like Harry-Gregson Williams - although I think he did the soundtrack to RUGRATS IN PARIS or something random like that

Edit: No that was it he did the soundtrack to SHREK
