I don't see why that would be a shock, ever since the world grew brains, 90% of the people hates ff7.

Everyone here knows how much I love La Mulana, I love everything about however it has made me cry like a baby. This, this, is the single worst gaming moment of my life. This is a spoiler, but most people would probably never beat hell temple anyway. Just to be sure, don't watch the video if you ever plan on beating La Mulana's hidden Hell Temple. So, here we go.

Let me set the scene for you.

The game is beaten! The treasure of La Mulana is mine! Yes, after a month of toil and sweat, i've done it! But wait? There's more? There's a hidden dungeon? Haha! Hidden dungeons are nothing before me! But how do you unlock it? I read up on the internet about how to find the hidden Hell Temple. Turns out it is not a nice place. After having my soul tortured for days by its infernal punishing platforming segments and puzzles convoluted beyond human logic, being made fun of by a talking laptop, getting 120,000 points in the god damn Gradius game, doing it again while standing at the correct spot, and finally beating the final boss that deals a fuckton of damage and is immune to everything except your worst weapon, and falling for (through) the HA HA BACK TO THE BEGINNING WITH YOU LOL trap floor in the room before the final treasure and working my way back, again... the end is just a ladder away! I wipe the sweat, blood and tears from my face, hold my head up high, take a deep breath, and proceed onward to claim the absolutely final, the forbidden, the ultimate treasure of La Mulana. This marks the end of the entire game! What's that, talking laptop? You're telling me to go back? You're telling me to turn around and leave, before it's too late? You're telling me, who have worked so hard, I will regret this? Hah! You fool! I don't believe your lies! I have cried, I have screamed, I have punched my keyboard over and over, but nothing, NOTHING can make me regret trudging through Hell Temple! The forbidden treasure is mine! NOTHING can destroy this moment, this moment of ultimate vict-

My worst gaming experiences? Kingdom Hearts would have to be up there. How anyone has any patience for that game is beyond me. After about half an hour I was so frustrated with the protracted cutscenes and go-nowhere gameplay that I was about to throw up everywhere. FFXII was also disappointing in the same way, but because it opened up a bit quicker I was more receptive. Rampage Universal Tour also sucked ass. Rampage World Tour was awesome. I don't know what changed, but whatever they did to it, it sucked.

Aw,`come on, the game isn't that bad. If you give the story a fair chance, it's not bad, and as for the gameplay, it's just like any other game. You fight things. I can see how it would get old though, but it's not a bad game. I give the franchise a lot of credit because of how much Kingdom Hearts II improved on everything.

It's also been scientifically proven that it's the most overrated game in existence. lolwut?

My worst gaming experience was a recent one. I ate out at this chinese place, which was pretty good. Then about 10 minutes after I started playing Pump It Up (korean DDR). I got sick to my stomach and ended up throwing up everywhere and destroying several toilets.

Fine, what are your reasons for it being so overrated? I say Gears of War was actually rather overrated.

I'd have to say my absolute worst gaming experience would be 15-minute Melee from Super Smash Bros. Melee.  It's not that it was too hard, it's that it was just tough enough to thwart you after being two-thirds of the way through it.  And it only gets worse beyond that point.  I can't tell you how many times I died within the last thirty seconds of the fight, because that statistic cannot be bound to a regular number line.  Biggest waste of my life EVER.

Although I haven't played Brawl's 15-minute Brawl yet, so that might get replaced as my worst gaming experience sometime soon (why do I punish myself like this?).

Does anybody else find La Mulana kind of disturbing - like it was made by someone who's been driven half-insane by overhard games - like even if a Mario game is hard at least it's cute on the surface

I can't believe no one has mentioned Big Rigs yet.

Aaanyway. For my worst gaming experience... man, there are a few to choose from. But I'm going to go with... *drum roll* Final Fantasy IX.

WHAT?! How can he say that? It was a great game with cool graphics and a cutesy feel to it! It tried to go back the series' roots! OMGLOLz!!11 etc.

There are many reasons for me hating FFIX with a passion. One of them is the often godawful music (courtesy of Nobuo Uematsu, who was at this time already displaying all the signs of needing to either change his act up or get the heck out of the business) - did you try to explore Daguerreo for an extended period of time? Or Treno, for that matter? Oh dear Lord. I muted the volume when playing this game, and I never do that.

Battles were slow and tedious, with far too much loading before and after. The story went from being slightly okay to decent to completely retarded over the course of two discs. The characters were as flat as cardboard cutouts with no personality whatsoever (with the exception of Vivi, but he got shunted to the side after the first disc). The only good thing about this game was its graphics.

And another reason I hate this game is the final boss. Now, I'm not going to write his - its? - name out because I don't want to spoil things for those who have yet to play this game. But I will say this: When the actual final boss of Final Fantasy IX was revealed, along with some of the worst character development I've seen since Xenogears, it gave new meaning to the word "fail".

FINAL FANTASY IX SUCKS

Judging by the fact that you are making a fangame I will assume that you like Final Fantasy games.  That said:

You might not think FF9 was the best Final Fantasy game ever, and maybe it didn't live up to your expectations because there was too much loading and the music wasn't that great and maybe it didn't take itself seriously (I thought all of the same things at the time but a decade later I believe it aged much better than the other PS1 Final Fantasy titles).  However, based on your post, you played through the entire game as well as went through its secret optional content -- so you probably played it for at least 40 hours or more?  I doubt you actually hated it that much.  If it was as bad as you said it was, you would probably have stopped playing it at some point.

Hmmm.

I thought that Final Fantasy 9 had some of the best music in the series.

Guess thats personal taste? :fogetshrug:

Nah I have to agree on that.

But come on people!

The final fantasy series aint the worst thing you could have played out there right? U never played anything that was total CRAP or just too buggy to play and that it would seriously piss the hell out of you? :fogetmmh:

I have to say I hate the clocktower series on the PSX. Im a huge fan of Survival Horror games *Points at his Resident Evil Poster*. But this game was just... not right.. It reminds me of some sort of Resident Evil 1 rip-off.

Clock Tower came first, on the SNES. And Resident Evil was a Alone in the Dark ripoff anyway. Also, from what I've played of the first one, I can say they aren't anything alike. Like at all. But I've only played the first Clock Tower, so I've no idea how the other ones are.

Yes, yes, of course. You're right.

First off though, I'm not making an FF fangame. I'm merely composing music for one (its thread can be found in the Game Development forum).

Second, as I said, you're quite right. I didn't hate it enough to quit. There were just so many things that really bothered me with it (see my post). The reason why I played all the way through it and found a lot of the optional stuff as well was because I tend to play my games all the way through, no matter how bad they may be. And I liked Vivi. :) I suppose I just wanted to rant about it, because it made me thoroughly disappointed quite a few times.

Oh, indeed not! I like the series in general. Number nine made me both angry and disappointed, though.

So, long story short, I'm sorry if I overflamed the game. I really dislike it for all the reasons I listed, but I did play it through. So perhaps it doesn't count in this case. :)

Big Rigs, though... has anyone played that one? -_-

That's good. Don't ever play any of the other clock towers. Especially avoid #3. It is horrible.

I've only played the original Clock Tower for the SNES and Clocktower 3. The SNES one had some of the most twisted endings. I remember not doing so well during my first playthrough and receiving and ending that I actually found disturbing at first blush. I enjoyed the third one, if only for the feeling of place and the "spookyness" of the setting. The low poly enemies weren't exactly terrifying to look at, but they had a bad habit of popping up at the most inopportune moments. Also I'll always remember that game for one reason: during the "sewer" level, one of the parts where the entity/serial killer appears to chase you, coincided exactly with the light bulb in my bedroom burning out. The combined stimuli, momentarily giving the game the appearance of being able to reach out into the real world, actually spooked me out a bit.

I felt really stupid afterwards though and switched to those energy saver bulbs with the five year lifespan.

In keeping with the spirit of the thread, I have another "worst" moment to share that came to mind after my initial post.

The playstation abomination known as Spawn. That game was absolutely horrible. It looked bad, controlled poorly and left you to wander around with an everlasting "what the hell?" expression. It did let me beat people up with their own bloody stumps, but that wasn't enough to rescue it. I never finished it. I recall clearly the moment I put the controller down, having found no good answer to my query of "why on earth am I still playing this mess?"
