A friend of mine told me about this, and I just think it's fantastic. Basically, this guy Toni Westbrook has coded a clone of Guitar Hero for the Commodore 64, complete with a peripheral to attatch your GH controller to your Commodore.

Quote from: The Shredz64 devblog
Shredz64 is a modern day game for the Commodore 64 that makes use of the Playstation guitar controller hooked through the PSX64 interface. Its design is modeled against the popular "Guitar Hero" series, geared toward the ability to play along to your favorite C64 music on the guitar. Correctly played notes increase your score and applause meter, while incorrectly played notes decrease your applause meter. If the crowd stops applauding, you're out! Additionally, Shredz64 features the "shredocity" meter that allows for extra points when you're doing an awesome job shredding to your favorite chiptune.

Shredz64 features the following:

  • The ability to play (many) SID files, including ones added by the player.
  • The ability to edit "notes" (the buttons that scroll during gameplay) for both built in and imported songs.
  • Pseudo 3D gameplay to give it the look and feel of a modern day game.
  • High score tracking, 5 scores for each song.
  • The ability to detect when the guitar is lifted up to activate shred mode.

A video of the game in action, parts 1 and 2:

Well, the C64 uses a derivative of BASIC, so it actually is quite a bit more powerful than you might think!

It does keep playing, as it does in Guitar Hero. If the applause meter reaches empty, you fail the song. He plays two Easy mode songs on that video, so he doesn't fail. Also Sylver 1) it's not a great quality video and 2) they are chiptunes.

on guitar hero if you miss notes the guitar part doesnt play, dawg. in this, the "song" that he hits notes for keeps going even though he misses them. go you.

I don't know man Sitar Hero sounds pretty awesome.

Anyway this game is really ridiculously neat even though it's kind of pointless.

Sitar Hero with a duel against Ravi Shankar would be pretty awesome.

the commodore kicked ass.  Too bad the Amiga came out with superior hardware and whooped it.

Why they don't add any chiptunes or music with sampled chiptunes to Guitar Hero is beyond me.  Is it too much to ask for one classic song or something?  I'd murder people to play the classic Mega Man 2 opening on a guitar.

Oh yeah, there's an adaptor for the PSP that lets you hook PS2 controllers to the PSP (so you can play PS1 games with a dual analog stick).  This means I can play this game on my PSP using a commodore emulator.

I said song because I didn't want to say guitar section since there's no guitar in this song. I thought what I was trying to say was pretty self explanatory. Oh wells. HF with Commodore Hero.
