I've been meaning to add some new features on the site from the day it was released, but I've been really busy with some other things, but I finally decided to spend a few hours improving the site. I implemented a few new features:
- Tags. Articles can now be tagged with keywords related to them which makes finding related articles much easier. I also implemented a cool and nowadays over used tag cloud on the site, which you can see on the right side of the site. It visually shows which tags are the most used ones, and which are more seldom.
- Profiles. Clicking an editor's name will now show you his GWLog profile, basically showing you how many articles he's written and of course links to the articles. I also added some other miscellaneous information like posts and when the person joined to fill up the space a bit.
- Archive. One of the biggest annoyances on the site was, at least in my opinion, how you couldn't quickly get a list of articles. When you clicked on a month on archive you would see a bloated page with all the articles it found and it was really hard to search for a specific article by its title. Now the article listing is done in much more compact manner and you can get a listing by exact date, month, year, category and of course tag. By clicking the Archive header on the right side, you can also get a listing of all articles posted.
I'm still planning on adding some other features for the site, but those will have to wait a bit. One thing that will be coming for sure is a way for users to submit articles to the site. The submitted articles need to be accepted by the editors first of course. I will release this feature later this week with very big certainty so if you have a good idea for an article, why not start working on it already?
Later!
