The news broke this week that Vijaya and I made a deal with Warner Bros. for the film rights to BONE. You can get the details at Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.

The whole thing happened very quickly last Friday night. Warners called and made us a real offer, it was as simple as that.  They stated their seriousness to stay true to the books, and after a couple of back and forths, the whole thing was over in an hour and a half. Vijaya and I had a celebratory drink and went to bed. We woke up Saturday morning  to find the internet on fire!

There’s a lot of speculation about what the film will look like, but I honestly don’t know yet. I’m partial to 2D, but if something  else looks freaking mind-blowing, I’m open to it.

Not much more to say at this point. We’re at the very beginning of the process, and anything can happen.

I have to admit, though, the idea of the Looney Tunes WB shield zooming out at the beginning of a BONE movie would be pretty cool. Fingers crossed!

I was so happy about this. my entire day was awful, and this made it better. I'm so happy now!

I was originally going to make a community post about the news but I seriously don't know what to make of it.  Nickelodeon tried to make a Bone cartoon but it was going to include fucking Britney Spears music and all the characters would be dancing and singing and BLEEEEEEEEECH.  Personally, I want the movie to be traditionally animated but the American audience is so spoiled by CG crap that I know it won't happen.  I can settle with real actors portraying the humans and the Bone brothers and the talking animals would be CG because the atmosphere is set up that way, but I'm pretty skeptic about this!

In other news, Kibuishi's Amulet was picked up for filming rights as well but the two main characters are being played by Will Smith's kids.  For those of you who didn't read Amulet (go to Borders and find it... now) the casting couldn't be more off.

2D or boycott

I feel this way, but I could stand it being 3D as long as it isn't GENERIC 3D MOVIE #256567679

So it's more like NOT SHIT or boycott

Let's hope it goes well because I have only read a small amount of Bone but it was fantastic!

3D is generic - that's why we had to get into cartoons in the first place because all this 3D stuff is so boring - like that LAMP over there what a jerk

At the same time I'm trying to figure out who would do the cartoon - I'd say they'd Production IG it like pretty much every other time they've needed 2D animation in any recent American film it seems - but I still think someone else should do it

Edit: I thought Production I.G. did something since that animation sequence in Kill Bill - like 2 or 3 things for American movies/ TV shows

Edit: So nobody outside of the usual production crew helped with the Simpsons Movie? Because if anything I did think the animation was brought to film pretty seamlessly - looking "bigger" while still staying faithful to the cartoon

I dunno I'm just looking at the covers and I'm hoping whoever does it does more like an "adaptation" of the drawing style because it looks pretty cinematic as it is if only it were moving

Jeff Smith said he would shoot them down if it was like the Nickelodeon one and that's why that one never aired.

Come to think of it, even though I only played the first few minutes of it because it kept crashing, the Bone game was 3D and so Bone does WORK in 3D.  It's just that it could so easily turn into the same shit as every other 3D movie coming out.  So I guess it's not the STYLE that I'd be worried about, it's just if they make a 3D movie, make it a GOOD 3D movie.

HAAS THERE EVEN BEEN A GOOD 3D MOVIE?????

Seriously this should HAVE TO BE oldschool animated, really smooth and have style. If it goes 3D it looses style because it's very hard to add STY:LE to 3D movies (I hate Pixar they can suck my balls). There's something nabout it... especially dreamworks. Every dreamworks movie loooks exactly the same, totally bland and uninspired.

I'm sure there's at least one good 3D movie but hell if I could think of one.

edit: Okay I went through Wikipedia's list of CGI movies and here are the ones I enjoyed from it:

Advent Children
Rattatouille
Monster's Inc.
Shrek (mostly just the second one, one and three were average)

Out of all the CGI films, those are the only ones I liked.  And I must say, none of them were FANTASTIC FILMS, just ones I enjoyed to some degree!  None of them were what I would have chosen if I had any say in it.

So I guess that doesn't say too much for CGI films considering how many there have been!

Man I've only read the first book, and I've meant to pick up the rest FOREVER, but... I love this! 2D would be best, for sure.
