I thought some people might be interested since it's been like 10 years apparently and there was a lot of rumors and stuff I think (not to mention they have a MySpace which had some demos of stuff that didn't have anything to do with the album I guess)

Personally Machine Gun reminds me of John Carpenter music on crack or something

Edit: Here's a lot more if you guys want to spoil it for yourselves like I am - you might like these tracks better anyway

Edit: Oh man this one is good http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQOen46Atek&feature=related

Edit: Ok basically the whole album is on yuotube already

Edit: Took out myself trying to figure out the drums cause it was stupid

Yeah I downloaded it a while ago and it is awesome. "The Rip" is like the best song in the world. And so is "Small." It has STONER DOOM METAL INTERLUDE I swear to god. And "Silence" is krautrock.

It isn't black music anymore but it still rules. Go Portishead you are amazing, and after over a decade too.

sounds pretty cool

Those drums are definitley sequenced. They're too acurate and mechanical sounding, which is what they're going for I think. like there's pretty much no dynamic difference in the drums

I know they're sequenced I'm saying did they record actual drums in-studio and then crap them up to sound like 808 etc. I've heard they don't actually sample anything and just make everything sound like it's some old half-remembered song by messing with the recording. Kind of like Amon Tobin's doing now.

Ahahaha

ok so I think those drums in Machine Gun are sampled but they must being actually "playing" them like in the video, because the sound is identical each time but it still has an accidental feel like somebody's actually playing the drums - I just really like the juxtaposition of that if that's what it is

this is the first portishead i have listened to and i don't really want to listen to the older portishead albums because i know they aren't that similar and i don't want to be let down.

They've only got 2 other albums, Dummy and Portishead, they're both good just get both of them. But if you've got to choose one make it Dummy, it was their debut album and it has some of their biggest singles (including roads)

Roads sounds cool yeah (nice strings going on in this live video I'm watching) and if it is a real Rhodes piano, that's a cool pun.
Do you have a passion for the Rhodes too? I fucking love the sound of them.
