Wow, I am a little surprised that no one has yet to make a topic about this game. So, what is the biggest game release of April? That's right, Grand Theft Auto IV! Mario Kart Wii!

Well, what do I know about this game? Not a ton, really. I do know that you can use your miis in a race, and it will also have online multiplayer, plus you can use motorcycles this time around. As most of you may know, motorcycles are new to the series. I don't see much as far as many new characters that we haven't seen before. Oh yeah, and snaking is out of the mix, too, since you hold the stick until the boost charges up. The game also ships with a steering wheel, which honestly, I could sort of care less for.

Screenshots
Delfino Square?

Roller Coaster? No, it's Warios gold mine!

Motorcycles this time around.

Wow, look at that castle!

Brrrrrr, cold...

I am pumped for this game alongside GTA IV. I really liked the 64 version, and Mario Kart DS was my favorite. The rest were pretty good, too. What does everyone think about this game? What do you like/don't like about this? Discuss!

I've had my eye on this ever since I first heard about it. Mario Kart is one of the series my girlfriend loves to play so I'd be getting it even if I didn't want to. The game looks pretty amazing for a Mario Kart game. I just hope they add more cool vs. modes.

I'm glad to hear it's coming out in a few days. I know where part of my tax refund is going.

I always thought Mario Kart games were kind of over-rated and I find them to get boring within a matter of a few days. I'll probably end up buying this one sometime in the future, though.

I think people haven't made a topic about this game because (hopefully) they are not that interested in Mario Kart anymore. It's by far the most stale series I have ever seen as it has been recycling same levels, characters, weapons and ideas since the first game. I actually have to admit that level design does seem a bit better than before this time around but seriously, I have almost completely lost interest in Mario Kart and I doubt I'll get this.

The gayest thing about Mario Kart is how the players behind you always get a handicap and there's no way to turn it off.

That handicap nonsense is really gay but I still enjoy playing the Mario Karts I've got with friends

I wouldn't ever sit down to play through single player or anything again though

It's pretty stupid that they removed snaking but kept rubber banding in. They should have done it the other way around, least snaking needed some modicum of skills to pull off and it's not really hard to balance out.

Probably gonna be shite anyway like Double Dash was.

rubber banding is what ds complained about, where people you overtake speed up so they are always just behind you in case you crash. (its a really lame way of INCREASING CHALLENGE for the people who are actually good at the game, and like ds said, you cant turn it off.)

I spent way to many hours playing mario kart 64, and I got it virtual consople and still play it. I never played DD so I am pumped about this. I wanna see how the level desigh compares to the older games like the 64 one.

Wait... How does everyone know already that this game is going to have rubber banding again?

I mean, they wouldn't just announce it, being sure to re-assure you that there is no way to turn it off, as if it were some sort of marketable feature.

Would they?

No, but DS was talking about the Mario Kart series as a whole.

Well someone from the team did say once that they never intended for snaking to be a feature in the game so I don't think they removed it so much as disabled the exploit that made it possible.

Snaking is where you drift left and right down a straight stretch of road in order to get a speed boost without having to wait for a corner.
You can't do it in MK64 because the drifting mechanism is pretty dodge if I can recall.

They got rid of the blue sparks, which are the foundation on which Mario Kart is based.  I'm still going to get it, though.

Let's see, snaking. I did do it in Mario Kart DS, because it was there so I thought I would take advantage of it. I thought it was fun to do, but it made some karts and characters useless in the longer run. It also put one at a big advantage, but then again you had to know how to do it properly. I never noticed rubber banding, ever. Was it even in Super Mario Kart for the SNES?

Yeah it was in every mario kart.

And that's right kids, it turns out you CAN impress people with sub-standard graphics as long as you turn the bloom levels high enough! ughhhhh I think this game looks horribly blurry. DD was a fucking terrible game and the DS one was probably the best mario kart is ever gonna get. My expectation for this are...not so good.

Snaking is the only way to beat crazy korean people on wifi (yes, it CAN be done) and it's pretty much the only way to break away from the rubber banding. I'll almost definately give this game a miss but my parents will buy it anyway.

I find the graphics just fine, and since it looks alot like MKDS, which was my favourite, I think this'll be pretty great. I'll definitely be getting it :D
