Anyone else check this show out yet? It's on Comedy Central (Comedy Network in Canada) and is hosted by, of course, Lewis Black. I'd have to say that it is the funniest new show I've seen in a few years, at least.

Lewis Black's Root of All Evil is a American television series that premiered on Comedy Central on March 12, 2008, starring comedian Lewis Black. The show is produced by Real Time With Bill Maher producer Scott Carter and The Simpsons writer David Sacks.

The show is in moot court format, featuring Black presiding over two people or issues going against each other like defendants and plaintiffs in a trial, with a series of comedians and guests, such as Greg Giraldo and Patton Oswalt, playing lawyers making their case why something (i.e. Youtube, beer, Oprah, etc.) is the "root of all evil."

I find the show is getting funnier with each episode. The latest with Patton Oswalt was just plain hilarious.

I've heard a lot of people talking about this on other forums and they say it's INCREDIBLY AWFUL, watching.

basically it's like crossballs but runs thin.

Shoes, but yeah.. Some of the lines are pretty bad. I like what defendants (the comedians) say though, because they write their own stuff.

Lewis Black sucks on the Daily Show, and his lines on the Root of All Evil are pretty bad, but his stand-up is just... Epic.

I loathe this show. The whole "court" style kinda pisses me off, and Lewis Black's one liners are awful.

From what I have read, Lewis Black said the show is currently about 85% scripted, 15% improv, but he'd like to get the scripted down to 70% and improv up to 30%.

I think if they work on that aspect more, the show should become more random and funny. And Lewis Black shouldn't even have a script. He is MUCH better when he's allowed to just go off.

yea this show is pretty horrible and i pretty much want to throw anything remotely projectile at my tv anytime i see a commercial for it. it's so goddamn awful, from the stupid scripted shit to the horribly unfunny comedians. it just sucks. this needs to go the way of all the other shows that follow south park and get canceled.

at the same time I just knew this show would suck - I agree you shouldn't give Lewis Black any kind of structure whatsoever, just have him come on talking about ANYTHING - be like 'today's show - whatever the hell lewis black is pissed off about at the moment'

I really don't like Lewis Black. He gives off too much of that 'angry pissed' kind of vibe that's really not necessary that much. I mean his stand-up might be amazing but I'm turning that stuff off if I see some guy practically convulsing from anger while talking about reverse parking or something. It just doesn't appeal to me.

I plan on checking those clips though, I guess I might edit this later with an opinion on the actual show.

I didn't really find the weed vs beer thing horrible, but it wasn't really funny either. For an apparently 'angry pissed off guy' he didn't seem that angry or pissed off (I never watch Comedy Central so I don't know who these people are) and it just seemed pretty dull all in all.

It's a really ironic design because Black is a pretty decent comedian and this show is named after him but he has about 4 lines per episode.  The show itself is like a spotlight on unfunny hasbeens and Black's name is a marketing device to get people to watch.

I've realized that I may only be watching this anymore just to see Patton Oswalt.

I'm guessing Lewis Black doesn't do 'scripts' very well and is much better when he's improvising. I didn't think this show was so bad but it's bad compared to his stand-up (well, he isn't even MUCH in this show).

Yeah, Lewis Black is definitely one of my favourite comedians but... It's depressing what his lines are like in this show.
