so my work was throwing away a cd-i that they used for training and they decided to give it to me instead bc id been bugged them about it months ago.
it has no controllers or remotes so thats a given buy. has anybody here ever owned a cd-i that can recommend me a couple games. I would like to try the awful zelda games but people pay big money on ebay for those. they ran like over 100 last i looked.
any ideas?

Well uh maybe you can just find CD-i roms and burn them to CD? The security features probably weren't that great back then

I've done the reverse with a Sega CD emulator - played some Sega CD game I legitimately got somewhere on computer

Edit: Oh you still need controllers though, that sucks

This was true with the 3DO, so chances are you can do this for the games you can't afford.  Or keep checking, you can often find people who are selling all the old stuff they have laying around the house and know nothing about video games, thus will sell things way cheaper than they should.

There aren't many good games for it, but I think there's Space Ace, which I love.

The Zelda games aren't as awful as they're made out to be, especially considering the time they were made.

But yes, the animated cutscenes are hilariously awful.

I just got this for the SNES.  I haven't played it yet though (didn't have time before going back to college).

Yeah, I would stay away from those Zelda games. All of them taste like a Diara.

Well... Perhaps just 1 mooooree?

I don't think the SNES version is going to be good.

It was $2.

I'm not TOO concerned about whether or not it'll be good at that point.

Dude, you beat the last boss by THROWING A BOOK AT HIM.

And all he does is slowly walk toward you while throwing fireballs that bounce off your shield.

You have to crouch to access the menu.

To be brutally honest practically all Zelda bosses after the NES era (scratch that, all Zelda bosses PERIOD) are super-anticlimactic and have crippling weaknesses, but yeah the last boss is pathetic even by those standards.

It's definitely far from perfect and has multiple gameplay flaws but considering it was born from a licensing deal and not the actual Zelda team I could forgive some of them, certainly not all of them though.

I could see you buying a CD-I for nostalgia, but if you don't have any fond memories of it, you won't get any enjoyment out of it at all. You would probably have slightly more fun if your work gave you their old 32X unit.

This is pretty true, but even still, most people don't get the opportunity to play a real CD-i so I guess it's cool to have the chance to experience the terrible games everyone talks about.

Also I was looking through a list of CD-i games and noticed that Brain Dead 13 and The 7th Guest both had CD-i ports.  If you haven't already played them, they might be worth a go for the non-joke options (although I can't vouch for the quality of the ports themselves, the games are good)
