Basically, I just wanted some suggestions for what I could do for my 18th birthday, which is next week.
Over here in England its somewhat of an important celebration, it not only means you can drink legally, but you are officially an adult.
I have a couple of ideas, but I thought it could make an interesting topic; as everyone could share stories of their 18Th's or interesting things they did on someones birthday or whatever.

I've got two options, have a huge party with all friends+family and get really drunk.
A small downside to this is a few weeks ago it was one of my cousins 18th birthday, she had a similar event which I went to. (And got really drunk) So I'm not sure if the experience would be as fun for me, having already done it a few weeks ago.

Or

Me and my girlfriend could go to Spain or somewhere warm for a week, which will be nicely paid for by my parents.
I know most people get cars and shit for their 18th but I'll admit it, my family are not that well off, so I have a budget of around £500.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

what! is this common practise?

i only know one person that got a car for her 18th, and she was from a very very wealthy family

like, i come from one of the richest parts of one of the richest countries in the world and yet no one got a car for their 18th except ONE so im wonderin if this is common practise over in england and if so what do your cars cost!?

also you should probably drink? its always more fun if they throw a party FOR you than you lurkin at someone else's party (at least thats my experience)

and why do you have to choose between party and spain?? are parties that expensive??????????

Spain. Without a doubt. Situations when you are:

A) Far away from parents and
B) With your girlfriend

should be treasured.

I would say go to Spain, simply because it will make for more memories than "yeah I got so wasted on my 18th it was like every weekend man only this one was my 18th."

spain is useless and a big great party should not be looked down upon.

If you already had a big party recently then definitely go to Spain - I think you'll find it really memorable.

A trip with your GF to spain should really not be turned down (especially since it would cost you next to nothing). I assure you that you will be getting wasted a lot more often once youre 18. Definately will give you better memories, stories and lifestyle experiences.

A couple of my friends had gotten cars for their 15 -- asian chicks with rich 'daddies.' I'm glad housing sucks so bad here. They can wallow in their 1 story suburban shithole for all I care.

Anyways, I'd totally go to Spain, if I could. Getting wasted on your 18 sounds sort of lame (not as lame as some of my friends' 18's(I would gouge my eyes out if I had to go to another videogame-themed party)).
"I would be totally embarassed to write this, even as a fakepost. it's not funny except in how you seem to think it's good. look at all the redundancies, for fuck's sake. "insipid semantics, despicable mediocrity" ugh gross gross. I want to take a shower every time I read your prose." -Steel

Personally, I would save the money and party at home. But I don't like to travel, and have money woes, so I guess I'm a bit biased ._.

Here in Chile, it's not common practice but it's rather common still, among high-mid-class families.
In fact, it's also pretty common for them to receive a car as a present for getting into a good university (Which usually happens at 18)

Now... What should you do...? Register yourself as a voter!

Yeah, I have to agree with this. Plus, you know...sex is more fun when it occurs in a foreign country.

Yeah, we have to register ourselves (Which is voluntary), but once you're registered, voting is mandatory. (You can null-vote or blank-vote, of course, but it sort of defeats the purpose)
