lol watching these videos takes me back to when I used to be like this going to these sorts of gigs and just going mental. It's so stupid and most of the music in bands like DEP doesnt even make sense, just idea after idea after idea with no development

Metal is so ridiculous

Stop Making Sense

@Ryan: What makes them different is that they actually try to progress their music and further themselves. I mean, when you compare them to the other metalcore bands, especially the more "mainstream" ones, they definitely have a more definable sound. I'm not trying to make you magically like them or anything, don't get that Idea, its just they really do have something more to them then just chugs and breakdowns. Atleast they are trying to do something with the genre, which imo, has become increasingly stagnant.
you will fail

The chariots vocals were pretty weak imo.

Man I sound like a faggot but I hate how fans of heaps of these bands are fucking like 14 it's not right seeing a BTBAM moshpit full of schoolkids.

BTBAM and The Black Dahlia murder (best band ever) are about as far as I can get into metacore/screamo whateve, each to his own though obviously but some of this stuff kinda just seems like christian metal to me and I'd rather have The Crown singing about being grim.

the chariot's singer is JOSH SCOGIN, he is pretty much like the definition of metalcore vocals.

he was originally the singer of norma jean (listen to memphis will be laid to waste and tell me how weak he is).

also, BTBAM is unique because they fuse jazz elements in a progressive metalcore sound, and aren't like CHUG CHUG CHUG CHUG CHUG WEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH CHUG CHUG CHUG CHUG WEHHHHHHH WEHHHHHHHH.

the crowds at those shows are generally very weak and full of scene kids that will hardcore dance to anything. I was at a circa survive show and some faggots started hardcore dancing, it was actually really insulting to anthony green and the guys. and another time I was at a chiodos concert, and people were hardcore dancing to them, why the fuck would you even want to dance to them? they're terrible. (I was there to see THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA).

I like Josh's vocals, just not the bands hes been in. I'm not a NJ or Chariot fan, but his vocals are pretty good. I don't think hes like MONDO-VOCALS but hes not bad either. I always had a preference for Sam from Architects and Spencer Chamberlain, especially in This Runs Through.

Spencer is so so so so so weak live, like I can't stand hearing UnderOath live, but on the albums he is one of my top 5 favorite screamers of all time.

Architects has an amazing singer also, I haven't seen them live though.

but top 5 screamers of all time:

1. Keith Buckley (Every Time I Die)
2. Josh Scogin (Luti-Kriss, Norma Jean, The Chariot)
3. Spencer Chamberlain (This Runs Through, UnderOath)
4. Billy Werner (Saetia, Hot-Cross)
5. Jake Luhrs (August Burns Red)

edit: I want to name drop more, and name top 5 singers in the core scene

1. ANTHONY GREEN (Saosin, Zolof and the Rock and Roll Destroyer, Circa Survive, High and Driving, etc etc etc)
2. Jonny Craig (Dance Gavin Dance, Emarosa)
3. Jonny Craig
4. Jonny Craig
5. David Raymond (Damiera)

Metal is a blanket under which a lot of subgenres fall.  You could call this ROCK technically.

BTBAMs writing isnt really IDEA IDEA IDEA its fairly motific in a lot of songs (their later stuff anyway)-- at least Alaska (the album).

I think its probally more of a genre thing than anything. Like I thought that Everytime I die video was pretty weak as well, it barely sounded like a song to me it felt like there was no structure (i know im wrong here).

it definately must be a genre thing! maybe i just dont like hardcore because to me, this is so much tighter, far far stronger vocals etc

listen how at 2.35 his vocals change, it sounds like the band has two different singers

haha, see, it's funny that I cannot stand The Black Dahlia Murder at all. Their music is just not good, and the way the vocalist screams doesn't seem to fit the music at all.

and, every time i die may seem a little different because they consider themselves SOUTHERN METALCORE or something.

yeah, my opinion is that if the black dahlia used vocals similar to btbam, or even like a plea for purging, that'd be pretty fitting, but his high pitched shriek almost reminds me of protest the hero's vocalist's scream (which is perfect for their kind of music)

also hey A PLEA FOR PURGING, they are pretty awesome, and their guitar is kind of technical whatever

TOPIC HIJACK! LETS TALK ABOUT METALCORE!
Seriously though, maybe we could get more discussion if we talk about the vast stagnant world of metalcore and its growing fan base. I propose (old)Cave-In is the amazing. Just trying to get some discussion between other dudes, because its been like the same 3 people posting.

Yeah that why I dont really see how people think TBM and BTBAM are really metalcore at all, TBM I'd say death metal and BTBAM I'd say progressive metal. But yeah everyone is always arguing GENRES. For me TBM's vocals kinda make them, like when I first listened to their earlier stuff he switched between the high pitched shriek and the throaty vocals so much i was like holy fuck is this just one guy. I also like how you can clearly understand what he is saying, like its even kinda catchy haha.

well afura, tomohawkjoe and i are here to educate you.

and I call BTBAM progressive metalcore, it seems pretty fitting. and, yes TBDM is definitely death metal.

I would also like to point out that any screaming/death growl/whatever is pretty easy to understand if you listen to it a lot, and pay attention.

haha, I wish that I was making emo-violence up, but it is the proper name for the style of screamo in the late 90's/early 2000's.

bands like:

saetia
la quiete
the death of anna korina
orchid
raein
joshua fit for battle
pg. 99
welcome to the plague year
jeromes dream
neil perry
i would set myself on fire for you
