Okay, my computer has been a little bitch when it comes to playing MP3s in other programs (like using them in Rpgmaker2003 and movie editing programs), they play well on windows media players but no other program can use them.

The RPGmaker2003 error is a stream of "not implemented" messages while the movie editing program says that it is an unrecognisable file type.

I have an inkling that I am missing a very important file or two that allows all MP3s to work throughout the computer. Does this make sense or I am talking rhubarb? Does anyone know how to check and/or re-install the MP3 playing capabilities of a computer?

I heard that your MP3's have to be associated with Windows Media Player. Putting it with another prog will make it not work. But since I never use anything BUT Windows Media Player (10), I can't verify this.

Try it, maybe it works.

That's entirely false (And dumb) because it would mean you would never be able to use other applications like... I don't know... WINAMP, FOOBAR, VLC, etc...

Your PC is just probably really fucking broken. My guess is you somehow don't have codecs for MP3 (Which would mean your OS is corrupted is some shit because the codecs are included with windows)

Maybe RPGMaker only accepts mp3's that are defaulted to open with WMP?

Look. I haven't used RPG maker in years and I still distinctively remember using mp3s with winamp installed. (Seriously... there actually exist people that use WMP?... Not even Media player classic, but WMP?)

Also, he says it's not only not working in rm2k3 but anything not wmp... Sounds like a virus to me or a corrupted os.

Media Player Classic is awesome for playing videos, (i use it exclusively) but not songs lol. WMP 10 is quite awesome, and songs sound like shit on other players, but top notch in WMP. I just use winamp for mod/xm/ other weird format files.

Just thought I'd throw the idea out there, doesn't hurt to try.

I don't know crap about RPG Maker, but using third party mp3 codecs can cause lots of problems with a variety of programs. I suggest you install ffdshow and see if that helps, it's one of the most compatible and efficient codecs out there.

I tried that codec goat, and AAC Core, a few other ones, no joy. The movie editing program is telling me to install Windows Media Player 7 or another decoder to play MP3 files.

Not sure if it would help, but do you have the Windows Media Player Codec Pack installed as well? Upgrading to Windows Media Player 10 may be something worth trying as well. Usually the only time I have an MP3 working in one program but not another is because it was encoded in a way that the specific program didn't support. Otherwise I can't think of anything else but to uninstall and reinstall all your codecs

edit: you may also want to update your sound card drivers, and disable/enable the hardware mpeg encoder if you have a sound card built into your motherboard.

Just checking in. Sad to say none of the above suggestions worked. What did work was getting a nasty rootkit and having to completely redo the OS from scratch. It fixed my MP3 problems, my USB ports are working again, its all good...ish.
