Games Best Opening Scenes (Read 5944 times)

yeah i think it's not even under development, just eternally in 'concept stage'

this is  basically correct. they've said somewhere (i'd find the link but I can't remember where. Think it was on joystiq/kotaku?) that there will not be any half life titles in 2010.

kinda annoying when they package the game as short episodes and then take longer than full games to release but w/e. i'm not a great fan of hl anyway and ep1+2 weren't that good at all.

back on topic: i recently got dawn of war 2, and whilst the intro isn't the BEST EVER it's certainly really cool and sets the tone of the game pretty well.

i'm pretty bad at remembering intros but i'll probably repost if ithink of ones i loved

DoW1 intro is really amazingly well done. did not like the 2nd one.

That’s right, you have the young gaming with the old(er), white people gaming with black people, men and women, Asian countries gaming with the EU, North Americans gaming with South Americans. Much like world sporting events like the Wolrd Cup, or the Olympics will bring together different nations in friendly competition, (note the recent Asian Cup; Iraq vs. Saudi Arabia, no violence there) we come together. The differences being, we are not divided by our nationalities and we do it 24-7, and on a personal level.

We are a community without borders and without colours, the spirit and diversity of the gaming community is one that should be looked up to, a spirit and diversity other groups should strive toward.

there's the uncensored jap version too but it's not really funnier, just a lot more gross and in color too I think. Also Chris smokes a cigarette lol

Half of that movie is a shaky camera going down a fake dog throat with Warcraft II dragon sounds.

I wish FF7 had taken the low budget live action approach to FMV's.  That would have been very memorable.

I have some special love for the "Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Sea" opening. It's super-cinematic and it makes me laugh every time (that game had the most hilarious voice acting ever).
Hahaha. Me and my sister still make a show of clenching our fist and and looking off into the distance while saying, "I've been waiting." Or flailing around and yelling, "It's unthinkable! To act against the Empire?!" Seriously, though, the game is actually pretty fun. The second one copped out on the opening, though! Not nearly as cool.

What always bothers me, though, is that the part in the raft never actually happens (at least to my knowledge). Trailers always lie!

Probably Chrono Cross. That music was awesome, Yasunori Mitsuda is a genius.

Although I would have to say the same for Chrono Trigger's PS1 version FMV intro. The music was not quite as good as the intro for Chrono Cross, but still pretty good. Also I like Toriyama's drawing style. Sure a lot of characters look like Goku, but who cares.

But yeah, the scenes were pretty generic
