So I'm browsing through the local events section of the newspaper and I stumble upon an "Anime Club for Adults" screening Devil May Cry at the Library. I've never heard anything like this before, and can't think of a single person who would be a part of this. Part of me wants to go to see who else goes. Has anyone ever seen anything like this or been a part of an Anime Club? This really surprised me for my type of community.

I hear anime clubs are pretty common for colleges and shit, but I can't imagine them being more than a few nerds/stoners giggling at colorfull.
I recall a few GW'ers being members of some at some points.

It's horrible stuff. It's filled with everything you hate about the internet... only this time glomps and squeals happen in real time and are so much worse on your nerves. If you aren't engaging in rabid fanboy/girl activities for a given subject... you are perpetually competing with everyone else about your knowledge and tastes. There is no exception. You cannot form a meaningful relationship based around an anime club.

The thing that caught my attention the most though was the "Adult" part. I mean I thought there might be a slim chance in my community that there were young teens who might have an anime "club". The Devil May Cry movie is rated MA (idk why because our movie rating system doesn't even have MA) and I just find it awkward and weird that young adults and maybe older would be part of it.

Trust me. "Adults" in an anime club are no more mature than teens. It's like they developed their own culture and everyone has to act the same. It doesn't matter if they are 15 or 50. Open anime fans... the type who would join anime clubs... man... they are generally horrible people.

don't do it kid, from someone whos been down that path before, for the love of god please don't do it. the majority of anime liking people or at least the ones that attend these sort of things are the worst kind of annoying person. If the whole n________n *huggs* bullshit is your thing then by all means go though.

I want to see someone dressed like Cloud, but I decided not to go. If I stalked them, they'd spot me and go all "one of us" on my ass.

Sylver please tell of your experience with Anime Clubs.

Your best bet would be to go and decide if you like it yourself. I mean, you seem curious, otherwise you wouldn't have created this topic. So go and tell us how it went.

You never know...you may like it.

It's a curious thing. That is all I can say.

In such situations I usually let the curiosity get to me, just becasue I know I never have to go back again.

Then again, people watching has been a bad habit of mine lately (it wouldn't be so bad if I simply sprang for some sunglasses).

Ok, I visited where it was at, and peeked my head in the room. It was just a bunch of normal people, mainly teens-young adults, but also older people there just chillin' and watching the movie. Maybe people just wanted to watch a free movie. :fogetshrug:
