Maybe they made a video just for fun? I think there is a little too much analysis going on here. Pork and Beans isn't supposed to be an orchestral masterpiece - apparently front man Rivers was making a stab at his record label (Geffen Records, who he fights with a lot apparently and is pretty much regretting ever signing with them - from what I understand) for rejecting other stuff he had written and trying to mold the band into a mainstream kind of thing.

Weezer has been influential in the "alt-rock scene", been very identifiable with a certain crowd, and in general produced catchy, enjoyable songs. They aren't for destroying your mind with some crazy new acoustics, but something to simply enjoy.

I don't know, just saying.

Also, saying that you love the Blue Album and Pinkerton but hate the "new stuff" doesn't make you smart.

I agree with this dude.
If you're looking for some vastly beautiful metaphors and thought-invoking imagery, maybe music videos are not for you?

ps. there is an ad on this page advertising weezer's new album, and i clicked it.

Truth... I was about to say almost the same thing.

BTW I love this song and see no wrong. You can say “oh Weezer your such a sell out OMG." but the truth is they did not won't to sellout at all. There record label told them to make something with more pop and something that they can sell (like put in to commercials) and the band pretty much said Fuck you. Maybe I like this song  because I like to consider my self as a rebel and pretty much don’t take bullshit.

Ok ASE, edited my post. yeah English is actually my 3rd language, so sometimes I get things mixed up.
That doesn't excuse the lack of periods, it's more the result of typing fast than my lack of knowledge about the english language.
Anyway I hope that now that I corrected it (hopefully there are no more errors, it's the most I can do) you can get my point across.

that was awful.

Weezer: Hey, lets get this internet guy to sing our song becuase he will get lots of hits on youtube. Yeah, it will be great because then loads of people will buy our record! Maybe for our next record we could get all the pornstars from Bang Bros to sing along whilst they're being fucked.

I have no idea why I hate this kind of stuff so much! I think it rubs at some weird internet thing at me but it's probably because of a few of those things are genuinely funny and then every person ever becomes committed to running it into the ground as fast as possible and usually as horribly as possible (I think I have seen Tay Zonday called a niglet at least twenty times).

That's called being non-conformist, and contrary to belief it's not cooler than being one of those people you mentioned.

wait am I misreading this or are you seriously suggesting the only reason I don't like this stuff is because I'm devoted to non-conformity.

because holy shit you don't know me at all then.

I don't like it because it's pandering first off, a practice I find pretty disgusting in general and then also it's not really funny or unique or cool but people will fall over themselves talking about how it's even remotely good when it's not, it's just SHIT YOU SAW BEFORE.

I mean this isn't the world's greatest example but Michael Gondry had some music video where there was a clear homage to Evil Dead 2 and while that's still shlocking to the masses he at least did something to it other than "look, it's shit you saw before! aren't we CLEVER". I just saw this video I wish I could remember the name but yeah, it's not NON-CONFORMITY but more that a bunch of semi-good shit like Chocolate Rain goes from kind of funny to irritating because everyone and their shitty band wants to reference it.

man what a dumb thing to say!

I was just saying to someone recently that they might as well have covered that lolcats song (to the tune of Come Together) by the obese frumpy nerd woman and the buttface dude

oh SHIT, I was gonna post a link but they took it down. man I hope someone saved it, that shit was the epitome of lolcats

I heard another song from their album, called "The Greatest Man That Ever Lived." A sort of a tribute to the music of the Shaker Protestants.

Verdict: it sucked.

The video is blegh. (although AYBABTU reference is pretty cool) The song itself is okay, but the chorus needed work as it really didn't match with the rest of the song

haha so i got this album and i kinda enjoy it actually! it's sort of a guilty pleasure i suppose but the instrumentals are pretty solid and fun throughout but man DO NOT LISTEN TO THE LYRICS they are so hilariously awful! like it is kinda shocking how consistantly bad they are
