For those of you have given one piece is  chance, did you like it? And did it fall under "generic anime" for you, also why did it fall under generic anime for you?

Yeah it's pretty much my favourite anime show, besides Gurren Lagann. If you skip the fucking fillers that is oh god please skip the fucking fillers here's a list of which episodes are fillers now promise me you wont watch the fucking fillers. Also watch a japanese, subbed versions because the translations butcher the show and turn it into horrible kiddy shite. From what I hear. Won't watch to find out.

It does fall under generic anime for me, because well, it is. There's some, uh, guys, and, uh, there's some bad guys and they fight a lot, how more generic do you want it. Thing with this show though, and why I love it, is that it spends much more time on the characters, and the characters are great and make sense. Everything that happens is character driven and it means everything that happens has so much more meaning than with most other animes. It has a much better sense of plot and purpose than most other animes.

But most of all it's just plain goddamn fun! All the fucking time! They don't even bother explaining things that are boring ("I can shoot fire from any part of my body because I ATE THE FIRE FRUIIIIT thats why").

Confession: I cried during Chopper's introduction arc.

One Piece? It's damn near amazing. I've followed it heavily since... Like 2004 or so and still love it.

I greatly prefer the anime because I'm just an anime kind of guy (manga doesn't do it for me), which is why I stopped reading the manga early on in Thriller Bark so.. The recent anime episodes are quite a treat for me, because this is the first time I won't know what is happening next since episode... I don't know, 85 or so?

One of the best series and you'll definitely like it if you like other shounen series like Naruto and Bleach.

I stopped reading too but not because I didn't enjoy it (in fact I think anime handled end of water 7 pretty poorly because it was dragged on for ages) but just for no particular reason and now the anime is further than I have read the manga so I'm pretty happy about it too. :D

I haven't watched the anime in half a year or so though, so I got some catching up to do.

i gave it a chance for about 40 episodes and it is a really terrible children's show and i hate it a lot!  CLEARLY IN THE MINORITY and i'm pretty positive you will love it but i thought this topic needed at least one person who was not an adult having an inexplicable fondness of a show designed for 12 year olds!

I actually really disliked the first 40-something episodes (well except for the Arlong arc), both in the original and in the dub. The series starts getting much better after that though. Water 7 arc really is a great story arc!

I really thought I would hate this anime and put off watching it for a long time because of the art style, but yeah, it definately does grow on you and I would say now it is probably my favourite of all the shounen animes. Its probably because along with the rar fighting and epic battles it actually manages to be funny, something that most animes just fail at, ie they try and introduce "comedy" characters which just end up pissing you off, like that AINTSU fuckhead in Bleach. But in OP moments like are genuinely funny.

And the manga has got to a very interesting point as well, looks like it'll soon be entering another pivotal arc as epic as Enies Lobby was.

For those who don't know, I breathe One Piece

I actually started on the 4kids dub since I had no access to or knowledge of the original and I found it a chore to watch and hated the animation. However, about a year ago, I brought myself to attempt to watch the Japanese version and watched the first 25 episodes and quit. It was good, but that was it. However, summer rolled around and I resumed watching, getting all the way to the end of Water 7. I was addicted to it. I watched the remaining episodes every now and then up till 305, but I started watching weekly at 326 until 339, when I read the manga mostly. Last week, I caught back up but still need to watch 306-325. Overall, this is anime and the best one by far. :)

Yeah pretty much this. I was also first put off by the art style, but after I forced myself to watch a few eps because I had heard so much good about the series, I realized what an amazing show it was. It's definitely my favorite shounen series, and everyone who likes shounen series and hasn't watched this doesn't know what they're missing out! That being said, I haven't watched the anime for a few months, but I'm following the manga and it's quite great. I'll catch up with the anime soonish.

I've been following it for a few years, and needless to say, I love it. I work a lot, and then there's training, friends, family, cooking and chores to be done. After a long day of all that, her and me have found that watching Dexter, or a movie, for an hour is too heavy once you get tired... however, a few brief One Piece episodes of silly nonsense doubled with great fun is perfect for these kinds of evenings, or lazy weekend mornings. And you have to give it to the show, they have a way to keep things fresh, and to keep every character as lively as they should be!

Actually, I've watched all the way up to 340 previously, where Vegapunk's subs ran out of gusto. Since then, I introduced the show to her and we've been watching this up 'til 207 where the [KF] subs ended way back. Looming on the horizon though, is that we're soon gonna be at 340 and I have no idea which group to go for post-340, now that VP seems to have lost their pace.

Any suggestions?

INP (Instantz NoobProduction) has been subbing OP after 340 (and even before it). Their website/tracker can be found in http://www.instantz.net/

I love the manga, but I quit reading it because the Thriller Bark story was just so terrible. I probly start reading it again after it gets far enough beyond that part.

The anime sucks though, I wouldn't even bother with it.

Thriller Bark gets interesting after the second half of it. I also found the beginning not as interesting as the other arcs but it picks up after. They also answer a lot of questions that you probably wanted to know while watching/reading the series overall.

Like . I don't think anyone would have expected him to be connected to . That just came right out of nowhere, but it was a pleasant surprise.

Thriller Bark dragged on too long. There were a whole 20 chapters after the crew fights! The last I think was at around 469 and they didn't leave TB until late 480s or early 490s. Point? They dragged on the main fights of the arc.
