I don't want this to be another thread about drug use inspiring/filling the pages of a great fantasy duology, but I just had to bring this up. "White Rabbit" is the name of the most famous Jefferson Airplane song. It is somewhat similar to R.E.M.'s "It's the End of the World" in that it basically says random phrases at the listener, but there is no beautiful melody in between each verse.

Each line is, as I said, a random nod to Alice in Wonderland. I first heard it in a Lost Odyssey commercial, but what I got upon learning its title and downloading it was a whole new experience. It is barely 2 and a half minutes long, so you actually have to listen to it or you wont even notice it on your playlist.

It is also trippy, if you hadn't guessed.

Man fuck Lost Odyssey

I also heard it was in a commercial for Red Faction 2 wtf does that have to do with anything at least Lost Odyssey is a kind of wonderland if you think about it

and yes this is the best fucking song ever although I say that about a lot of songs so don't trust me

but I don't really see what's so trippy about it other than lyrics

Ugh, games need to stop using that song.  None of them have a reason for it.

This topic is awful, because not only do you not seem to get this song, but you also seem to think it's made of "random" phrases.  There is nothing random about it because it's well thought out which is the exact opposite.

fun fact:  this is my absolute favorite song ever I can't even remember the first time I heard it though it was pretty long ago

I know it is well thought out it is just.... nevermind, it is hard to explain. by random phrases I mean just one thing after another, whether they were well put together or not, it still seems random.

And yes, fuck Lost Odyessy.

hahaha do I know gw or what/?? scuba probably doesn't check this forum often or I think he would be the third reply

I never got the "remember what the dormouse said" part, I read through that scene again and he didn't really say anything important. apparently it comes from a different section (I just found this out)

Quote
"But what did the Dormouse say?' one of the jury asked."
"That I can't remember,' said the Hatter."

the song is about the irony of parents encouraging psychedelic experiences with their kids yet forbidding the use of psychedelics when they grow up

its a pretty cool song but ive never heard it in a commercial what are you guys on about you crazy vietnam warriors?

also not bringing up drugs in a topic about a jefferson airplane song is ludicrous!! you know, jefferson airplane intended to smuggle lsd to the president and make him trip out to make him end all wars (not sure which it was) but the lsd was confiscated when they were to meet him or something like that. might be a myth but im pretty certain i read it somewhere serious??

yeah, I'm sure MSG4 is Snake's 'final battle' but they would bring it back for a story based on a music group's attempts to drug a world leader.

this is true, supposedly they got caught because grace slick was on some sort of DO NOT LET IN THE WHITE HOUSE list, or was just recognized or something

it was used in two video game commercials, neither of which had a reason for using it (about the only game that would really make sense would be ALICE but even still it would be awful)

i have an older version grace slick did where it's 6 minutes but only the last one minute or so is singing, the rest is pretty cool music

Using it in a Lost Odyessy commercial makes like... 12% sense, but at least that is some. but Red Faction 2? That's like using The Carpenter's "Close to You" during a fightscene with an army of orcs against a single hobbit(Doesn't matter which one, kill all four.)

You know what I hate. I hate how people randomly use Clint Mansell's "Lux Aeterna" for random adverts and TV Spots. Like I heard them playing it over a football match the other day, and they used it on the top gear polar special and it's just fucking everywhere. I think they even used it in the 300 trailer. They ruining one of the greatest pieces of music ever :(

I also hate how Amon Tobin is everywhere now. Like EVERY TOP GEAR EPISODE just has Amon Tobin randomly playing in the background.

Way to use stuff out of context world.

Yeah there is a lot of that stuff going on. But sometimes when a song blatantly fits with what you're putting it to, whether it be a movie or a commercial, it Can be stupid. On Rave Master once, a character looked at the ocean and said, Look, it's beautiful" and like, a second later the lyrics of the song said, "It's beautiful"
