I guess that makes sense. But if you think about it, the mere fact that it happened means that the world is actually accomidating people who are "just that stupid". I remember a time when people actually had to have talent and taste in order to even get their foot into the door. This is a single case that is really comically outlandish sure, but it couldn't have happened in an industry that wasn't completely saturated by people that can get away with shit that's practically as bad and still make money from it.

Yeah, it's a funny joke, but the joke's on us. (I just don't like being made fun of. It brings back bad memories)

Edit: Wow you people respond fast. I'm sorry that the point of that post was missed on you guys. (in that I was replying to the first answer with a response that took exactly as much time/thought. I still hold firm to my beleif that the same lack of critical thinking in the world today led to both of those events. But hey I guess it was out of line since this time nobody actually died from it.)

I still think this game has to be fake, it's just so bad I'm still like wtf is that shot where that guy's nose sort of inflates which I guess is supposed to be some sort of expression of anger but it just looks so bizarre and awesome

Well, maybe if their publisher wasn't full of people who did not know what Oblivion and other games looked like, sure.. The publisher they managed to snag is one who puts out SOFTWARE and KIDDY GAMES. I'm pretty sure they selected these guys as their publishers for a reason. They would know?

So is the war in Iraq.
well, not at all, and that's a reprehensible and childish thing to say to prove a point about video games.

Yeah, I realised that a little too late after the fact.

It was more about society than video games(in that people can be sold literally anything), but that doesn't change the fact.

The more I look at this the more I think it is a big joke. The humour is not in the game though, but how everyone is getting so worked up about it. It's actually really hilarious to see someone so blatantly rip off shit knowing they wouldn't get away with it and then speak out about the game and how it took no influence from any games at all. It has to be satire

so these guys have been making video games (well, the same video game) in their spare time for the past decade. in real life they are what a house painter and a nanny or something like that? and their engine is some shitty freeware program, and they decide that because the engine has 2d environments that the character moves around in, similar to uh well any old adventure game i guess, they could save a bunch of time by taking screenshots of the games they are currently playing and taking other resources and manipulating them a little bit. they borrow some of the dialogue from various other games and basically it is some strange amalgam of everything they enjoy about the genre.

then they make a trailer that seems to specifically cater to the type of audience that loves b movies and just ridiculous shit overlaid with movie announcer voice, complete with that fantastic dog sequence and some fairly normal adventure game stuff. the game itself is actually not bad to someone who enjoys the genre, and they'd probably even buy it if this hadn't gotten out.

so basically this is barkley but retail and possibly (i'm thinking probably) earnest. this is silver4donuts's monopoly game in walmart.

also, what's the chance of this becoming some **RARE GAME** on ebay? somewhere it said only six copies had been sold.

tri synergy is the worst name for a publisher. it just goes to show how even more worthless they are if they picked up a game like this. even before i knew this stole shit i wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole.

p.s. this is their tagline

Tri Synergy - A revolutionary approach to software publishing.

Man I saw a picture of the three guys who made this game in one of the many links within a link within a link here. I can't remember where so go dig it up yourself but AHAHAHAHAHAH. They are three mid-life crisis thugs that look like they are still searching for the [any] key on the keyboard to turn it on. Just from looking at them it's almost CERTAIN that this is one giant scam and they thought nobody would see through it.

Three computer fans are hoping to make a mint after the PC game they created went on sale in the USA.
Steve Bovis, Tim Croucher and Laurence Francis, all from Maidstone, have dreamt of seeing Limbo of the Lost played across the globe since they first started discussing the game 10 years ago.
Mr Francis, 47, who also provides the voice for the game's lead character Captain Briggs, said it was conceived for Amiga computers that went out of date in the 1990s.
He said: "Everything just sort of fizzled out. Then one day I was working in a pub and Tim and Steve walked in.
"I joked 'I thought you would be millionaires now', and they replied 'actually that is what we wanted to talk to you about'".
The three put their heads together and after three more years of hard work Limbo of the Lost - a PC adventure game - was born. It is a battle between fate and destiny, with players having to work through a series of puzzles and challenges to reach the end.
Mr Francis, a former landlord of The Pilot pub, Upper Stone Street, and now a mature student, said: "It is a sort of comedy come horror. A bit like Monty Python meets Evil Dead.
"Between the three of us we researched, wrote, designed, animated, scripted and developed the whole game from home."
Mr Francis, of Reginald Road, said he hoped their story would inspire other PC users to the full potential of their machines.
He added: "For us it started out as a hobby and then just grow.
"Our hope, if everything goes well with the sales, is that within a year we will all be stopping the day jobs and doing this full time."

I keep thinking that this is some kind of amazing practical joke by the developers of all those games. This is just too insane to be true. It seems nearly impossible that nobody involved in the project, from mapper to texturer to modeler to graphic designer to art director, ever noticed or decided to speak out against such blatant plagiarism.

It couldn't have been the work of a lone art director. That might have been a possibility if all of the games they stole from were obscure and largely unknown to the big public, but that's not the case at all. It must have been a concerted effort by everybody working on the game, and that's a very weird thought.

DOES NOT PARSE.

EDIT: so there were just three guys working on this. I guess that kind of makes this a whole lot more credible.

Yeah, I just saw the photo. That actually makes it a lot more credible. It's still pretty amazing that they were so stupid, though, since anyone who has a creative profession knows that copying even the smallest of things is threading on thin ice. For them to copy entire maps and then show their work to the world is just inexplicably dumb. I don't think it's ever been done to this degree, either, not even back when all games were produced by only a handful of people.
