I have some kind of virus or something that is making it impossible to use my computer correctly.

Basically I downloaded a torrent (that or the Spore creature creator) and it had something inside it that makes explorer.exe crash within ten seconds of it starting. Whenever I restart, explorer seems to enjoy crashing.

I can't download HijackThis and my normal antispyware programs can't find anything but cookies.

explorer crashes so quickly I cannot start programs so it is lucky that Firefox opens on its own.

That’s right, you have the young gaming with the old(er), white people gaming with black people, men and women, Asian countries gaming with the EU, North Americans gaming with South Americans. Much like world sporting events like the Wolrd Cup, or the Olympics will bring together different nations in friendly competition, (note the recent Asian Cup; Iraq vs. Saudi Arabia, no violence there) we come together. The differences being, we are not divided by our nationalities and we do it 24-7, and on a personal level.

We are a community without borders and without colours, the spirit and diversity of the gaming community is one that should be looked up to, a spirit and diversity other groups should strive toward.

You can restart explorer by pressing ALT+CTRL+DEL then going to file->new task and type "explorer.exe"

if it still crashes, then you can prolly use the same method to start your antivirus program, (not anti spyware program)

Last option would be to format *_*

Or if you can't get back to explorer for whatever reason try [WINDOWS ][/WINDOWS], this will open the Run Dialog where you can type the name or path of a program to open.

You can download hijack this, all you need to do is let explorer close. Then start firefox through the run dialog or task manager or however you want to do it... from there just download it to whatever directory you want and then open THAT directory (or the hijack exe) through the run dialog or the task manager dialog...

You could try booting in safe mode and removing the virus from your startup, which is more than likely partially where it resides...  Start \ Run \ msconfig.exe \ Startup

Try running anti-virus and adware scanners in safe mode. Have you tried a restore point yet?

No you have to go through the task manager. the windows+r shortcut is in explorer.exe. You can't use it if explorer is shut down. but CTRL ALT DEL and run is the same dialogue.
