I (finally) got to see it.

All I have to say was that it was pretty much exactly as good as I expected it to be.

It might have pissed me off if I kept track of the hype (Oh my God, the new Batman movie is being overhyped? This is the suprise of the century!), but I thurougly enjoyed every bit of the movie itself. I will agree that they took some of the development from the first movie for granted; enough so that it'd be hard to follow for people who haven't seen it recently enough to remember it well.

This movie was excellent.... Saw it twice with some different buddies of mine... Opening night and the next day. There was so much hype for it and it met my expectations... Its one of the best movies I have ever seen. Ledger's performance was excellent... Yeah yeah I'm repeating what everyone else said but I'm so damn late in replying to this..

I don't know, I saw this a few days ago. The more I think about it, the more I'm disappointed by it. I mean, it wasn't a bad movie, not by any measure, but I just can't think of any memorable scenes or acting performances. No, I didn't think that was Heath Ledger's best acting performance ever. I didn't like the way the movie referred to Batman as 'The Batman' all the time. I think there was too much filler for an almost 3-hour movie. I just feel like I missed out on some part of the movie that everyone else saw and thought, "wow, that was awesome!", when I was asleep or something (not that I was).

After spending several hours terrified that his body had been possessed by a demon, that his next door neighbor was a witch, and that his furniture was threatening him, Dr. Hofmann feared he had become completely insane.

Yeah idk about filler. Because like I went to the bathroom REALLY FAST once it got to a scene with Alfred talking to Batman and when I got back (after like a 30 seconds) it was already into another scene with the Joker.

I didn't really like the plot is what I'm trying to say. I just felt no attachment to the main characters (the only ones I actually like are Alfred and Fox), and there wasn't a whole lot of character development; the 'emotional' scenes felt like they were poorly written or something similar.

I can almost see what you're saying about the character development thing. I think a lot of the secondary characters were fleshed out to a point where you started to get interested in them, but then they stopped being important to the plot. If you were talking about the main characters though, Roman is completely right.

I was pretty disappointed in Gotham City. It was just a generic slick 2000 city.

I actually liked Gotham City more in this movie than Batman Begins. Feels like they took a more realistic approach and it worked with the film.

Yeah, I never really gave that much of a shit about the first one.  I mean when I first saw it I was like HELL YEAH BATMAN'S A NINJA and I was really glad that it wasn't trash like the last three Batman movies, but like a day later its flaws became more apparent and I kind of just didn't really care about it anymore.  It's not a BAD MOVIE but I don't know I was just kind of indifferent about it.  However when I first heard the Joker's laugh in the teaser trailer last summer or whenever it came out I went nuts and I had been waiting impatiently for this movie ever since.  Still don't care about Batman Begins though!  The Dark Knight is infinitely better though two thumbs up.

Well, the Joker as a character wasn't very fleshed out, I mean, he didn't have many speaking roles apart from general villain bits. Like at the charity dinner for Harvey, the Joker just comes in, says some stuff about wanting to find Batman, then gets beaten up.

I think a lot of the secondary characters were fleshed out to a point where you started to get interested in them, but then they stopped being important to the plot.
This. Although I enjoyed seeing more than just Batman and the Joker fighting for 3 hours, the amount of screentime the minor characters had was probably unnecessary, in my opinion.

Just thinking about this now, though, I think my dislike of this movie comes down to two points:

1. Batman has been written as more of a 'tough guy', while Bruce Wayne is a massive jerk. I don't feel attached to either of them because I can't relate to either character; Batman's too macho, and Bruce is just annoying at points.

2. I don't like Rachel because she can't decide between Bruce and Harvey for ages (maybe it's just that so much of the movie relates to this, and I found it boring?), and she just seems like the essential childhood friend/love interest character.

I hope that made it a bit clearer.

What more do you want? There isn't anything to flesh the Joker out on. At all. His entire schtick is that he has no past, comes up with it on the spot (choice quote: "Sometimes I remember it one way, sometimes another... if I'm going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice!"), has no name (except the Joker, or Mr. J.), and is a guy trying to induce the most fear/chaos/anarchy as he can. You can't flesh the Joker out, the instant you do you ruin his character. It's just the way he works. Some comics glimpse on his past, but none of them have ever been declared his official past or anything, cause he ain't got any. He's just a guy trying to do whatever the hell he wants to do, as long as it makes the world burn.

Dude what do you not get? The Joker isn't supposed to be fleshed out, in order to prevent the audience from sympathizing with the character. He's supposed to be creepy and consistent throughout the film.
